Rear Spare Mounts

I bought my first used Jeep on Monday and it needs a spare mount bracket, any suggestions?

My suggestion would depend on how heavy wheel/tire you're putting on. If it's factory then search craigslist for a take off for cheap. If it's over the 85# max of the factory carrier then I'm a fan of the Teraflex carrier.

Glad to have you here!

Another thing to consider with the decision on stock vs beefier carrier is if you'd like to mount anything else to the carrier, like a hi lift jack, shovel, Jerry cans, etc. A beefier carrier like the Teraflex will allow you to add that additional weight, even if you have stock size tires. But of course there are other places to mount or carry all of those things, so it's not a necessity to have a strong carrier if you have the stock tire size.

I did the Smittybuilt one. Have a friend help you with this! and remember to shim the door good before you remove the old bolts!

Its nice and has additional addon holder for a trailjack :

I got it for 480.00 and I have the addon trail jack holder but havent installed it yet.

This is a good install video :

Are you saying your used Jeep didn't come with a spare mount? If so, you might consider something like this, it's a direct replacement for your factory one, and can be a part of an upgrade path to carrying much larger and heavier spares: Heavy Duty JK Spare Tire Carrier ? That looks like a great alternative! And reasonably priced.

And when you find your factory hinges wearing and allowing the tailgate to rattle, you can replace them with these HD hinges: MORryde Jeep JK Wrangler Tailgate Hinges | Retrofit Offroad

Lots of other things that can go along with the spare carrier and hinges, including a tailgate reinforcement for larger/heavier spares and various accessory carriers that bolt to the hinges... JK Heavy Duty Tailgate Gear | Retrofit Offroad
