Recs needed. Anything that can't be upgraded later?

Hi new here.

I had a TJ wrangler about 12 years ago. (My dad still has it and eventually will be mine again), but until then I'm looking at getting a JKU. I've been debating all the models and it really comes down to Rubicon or Sport and I'll probably end up with the Sport. My offroading will be limited to mainly dirt roads and Texas beaches so I'm not sure I would get much out of the Rubicon's upgrades.

I'm looking at this as my car for the next 10+ years so I think of just upgrading over time as the need arises. However, is there anything that is a must to get at time of purchase other it would be a pain (either economically or work wise) to do after the fact?

For the 'wheeling you're planning on doing, a stock JKU should do just fine. You might invest in a small air compressor for airing up your tires after you air down for the beaches. I modified mine mostly for the look as I wanted a little bit bigger-than-stock tires. For less than $2K I was able to get new tires and wheels and a Teraflex leveling kit.

In your case, the biggest thing to look for when looking at JKUs is the gearing. Try to find one with 3.73 or lower (numerically higher) gearing. The 3.21's aren't much fun at all, especially if you want to go to a bigger tire in the future. The Rubicon's come with 4.10's and those are a great gear as well.
