Has anyone on the forum got one of these https://www.extremeterrain.com/redrock-4x4-hd-tire-carrier-for-oem-tail-gate-0718-jk.html#customer_pics-0

Its sold by extremeterrain on their website. Numero $uno$, I like the price for a hinge/tire carrier combo kit. Also, am liking the different/rugged tube design of it, but there are a couple concerning comments from previous purchasers of it. I can see how it might rattle like hell if not designed well where it secures to the tailgate/vent cover.

The 2 hinges appear to be a solid design. I know about how much better a TF or even RuggedRidge hinge/carrier will be, but its also double+ in price. For about $260 shipped, I'm pretty interested in jumping on it.

Here's the abysmal pdf instructions from their website: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J116338-manu.pdf, no video of the install, which is also concerning imo

If I do need to forget about this RedRock4X4 tubular hinge/carrier, I'll likely just get a TF adjustable tire carrier for now, then get a hinge kit later. Trying to save funds for other stuff atm. Thanks in advance.

No, I did not get the RR carrier from my post above. That thing weighs 80 lbs by itself iirc, but mainly because I wasn't ready to fix or re-engineer on it, in the event it developed rattles and messed up my oem hinge points and the latch. I was convinced it would be a problem.

Just my opinion but if your going to have a spare tire larger then the stock one i'd say use one that's mounted on the bumper then the Jeep body.

Yeah in principle I am sure it's much stronger. I was trying to avoid having two separate latches. They did make some that bear the weight in the number but still open with the tailgate. Maybe that's a better way to go . Not sure I have only seen the full up separate swing gate on a couple buddies Jeep's .

I can tell you from experience RedRock4x4 I believe is an ET chinese knockoff brand. Cheap parts. Cheap packaging. Cheap instructions. Short life. My advice after receiving not 1, not 2 but 3 of the same part... and ET wasn't going to take care of me when the part in question was worn, dropped, missing hardware... I went through paypal with photos and was reimbursed by paypal. ET self reported my email address to their system as fraud.

RedRock4x4 does not have its own website, its first through third google returns are ET only.

If you go to redrock4wd.com you get this message:

***** Please note, we are not "Redrock 4x4" nor affiliated with them, and DO NOT sell any "Red Rock 4x4" manufactured parts or components here. "Red Rock 4x4" is an ecommerce only brand, commonly sold by Extreme Terrain and American Thunder. *****

I too wanted this exact same tire carrier as I liked the look of it and PRICE of course compared to others. I ended up sucking it up and buying the Teraflex last week. I do have one RedRock product on my Jeep and have been very pleased with it. No issues at all.

I have a rattle close to my hinge, so in 4 days when it arrives I can post a better opinion on here to let you know if the rattle goes away.

Yeah I've been reading alot of positive reviews about the Teraflex and it's various knock offs (rugged ridge smittybilt) seems like alot of people are carrying bigger tires thank plan to and are doing great. I'll probably go that route.
