Replacing Factory Stereo (Best option?)

I know people get tired of questions about replacement radios in the JKU, but I have a very specific "needs" list. I was hoping to get some recommendations. My needs for a replacement unit are as follows...

• Must work with steering wheel controls (including voice command)
• Must be able to use factory mic
• Must have backup cam capability
• Must have option for green illumination
• Must fit factory unit position (no restyles or fill ins)
• Must have functional navigation

Does a unit exist that fits all these needs?

Would I be best served buying a factory 430 unit and adding a camera? Which unit would I need?

Alpine | Jeep Wrangler Audio: Radio and Navigation Restyle Dash System - X009-WRA

Alpine Restyle - on sale for $2500

Alpine | Jeep Wrangler Audio: Radio and Navigation Restyle System – X109-WRA

The newer model on sale for 'only' $3000

These are without a doubt, the 'best'.

Looks like someone did not read my requirements list.

What requirement doesn't it meet?

You aren't going to find a monochrome green screen...

The factory mic seems to be the tough part. Proprietary plug. I think that this has all that you are looking for as well.

I think the Raxiom is as close as you'll get to your wish list. I believe it has a 'new' microphone but everything else is there.

If I buy a 430n or 730n will I be able to add a backup camera and use existing mic? Will I need a seperate GPS antenna or does the one for the sat radio work for GPS?

Can't vouch for the GPS antenna (although I've heard it will work). Mine came with a base 130 (no bluetooth/connectivity/etc...), so never looked at any of the Mopar factory options. I can say, the microphone isn't a big deal to run and mount and you can put it wherever you like.
What I hate is that ALL of the non-factory options look like crap installed with the available mounting options (Scosche or Metra kits) which is pushing me towards the Raxiom.

Good luck with the search!

I did think about that, but I kind of want the nav feature.

What's the objection to a new microphone? They're tiny and fit pretty much anywhere. I never notice mine until I make a phone call and it's right in front of me.

I think my HU--see signature line below--meets your list except I'm not sure about the green illumination. I know I can change the background color and changed mine from blue to red but that was a while ago and I don't remember the other choices.

Otherwise, it fits in the OEM slot, has Garmin navigation, works with the steering wheel controls including voice command and a backup camera.

Navtool is the best option on the market right now for adding a camera to a 430 as far as I'm aware. It will allow 4 cameras and will also mirror your phone if you want. It's not the same as car play or whatever android calls it as you won't have any options to control the phone with it, but that's not something I think I'd really need.

• Must work with steering wheel controls (including voice command)
With an interface, any aftermarket radio can work. A 430N or 730N will work.

• Must be able to use factory mic
No option here other than a 430N or 730N.

• Must have backup cam capability
Aftermarket or OEM can meet this requirement.

• Must have option for green illumination
If you decide to go OEM, be sure the 430N or 730N is from another Jeep branded vehicle. FCA/Chrysler/Dodge use these radios in other vehicles which have blue backlighting. Of course afterarket can give you this option depending on the head unit.

• Must fit factory unit position (no restyles or fill ins)
Either OEM via 430N or 730N, or the Raxiom unit meet this requirement. There are also Android based units that fit without modification.

• Must have functional navigation
OEM or aftermarket will meet this requirement.

If you're going to replace then you can do better than the 430. Look at aftermarket. They'll do more and sound better.

Personally, I would also suggest giving up on the in-dash nav. I got rid of mine. These systems are far too restrictive and cumbersome compared to the portable and dedicated Garmin nav systems like the Garmin DriveLuxe™ 51 LMT-S. That's just my preference though.

I believe the Maestro RR module will allow your aftermarket radio to function with the OEM mic.

you should reconsider.. The re-style is factory fit product that integrates with all you steering wheel, phone, & U-Connect functions. Added benefit, if you want to upgrade your system with aftermarket amps and speakers, The Alpine Re-Style has that option with RCA outputs. And boy does it sound sweet.. I have the X109 and love it.. No regrets!.. Also picket up a replacement dash bezel on E-Bay for $90 Bucks, just in case i end up selling my jeep and want to keep the radio.

I had a 730N in my 2013, and used a MyGig Lockpick to get a rear-view camera, as well as unlocking the GPS so it could be used while moving, and a handful of other things.

I've since replaced all that with a Kenwood unit, and I agree, the adapters are ugly.

When I get around to getting the unlock code for the 730, it will be available, as well as the Lockpick. I'm just really bad about posting stuff on classifieds...taking pictures, all that.

It does "sort of". You can have the Maestro leave Uconnect enabled. Which would allow you to use the Uconnect bluetooth module for phone calls, and the stock Mic. I tried it though, found it very lacking.

I just took delivery of my Jeep yesterday, but I've already got an Alpine X109-WRA sitting in the garage waiting for installation. I'm going to try to do it myself. I'm a little nervous, but there are videos online that should help. I'm going to start with the backup camera. If I can get that installed, I'll have confidence to tackle the head unit.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but the Maestro website clearly states UCONNECT (not the aftermarket section) continues to work. That includes phone calls and voice command.

Installing the backup camera in mine was super easy.

Yes you can still use Uconnect but why would you. It is really not very well thought out and most aftermarket units are better.
