I have a 2009 Wrangler Unlimited with the Freedom top. It doesn't rain a ton here in SoCal but it has been lately and it has brought a problem to my attention. There is a groove in the roof lining the sides that tapers down and ends at the front of the driver's and passenger's side doors. When it's raining hard and you open the door the water streams into the car from this groove and onto the floor. When you slide your leg in you get hit with the water. :9lame:
Has anyone else experienced this and know of a good solution?
You mean like this? This is my 07 and it did this every time it rained but the last storm we had I thought about it and came up with this idea. I was stuck in traffic so I had time. I took a gum package that was made out of thin cardboard ripped off 2 strips. Then un-hooked the latches and rolled the cardboard around the windshield part and re latched it. Not a drop after that and it cut down on some of the wind noise. I know it is a cheap fix but it seems that tightening the top that little bit helped.
Just be glad it doesn't rain a lot out there but in the northeast it rains more often. When i got my 2010 Wrangler 2 door and when it rained it's like a waterfall when you open the door ! But i have learned when it rains to open up the door and jump in quick before the water starts stream down my side of the door as i get in ! Seems to work but thats just part of owning a Jeep ! Wish i could help with a answer. Maybe someone on here will have a answer....i hope .
Happens with every JK. Welcome to the world of Jeep ownership. There is no "real" solution except either get in quick or open the door, let the water run down and then get in. I thought it never rains in southern California; or is that some song.
Look at pictures of TJ's. The roofs actually overhang the doors. The JK's doors are flush with the roof. What f*#^&$! engineer designed this! I saw movies of the future. Peoples heads are huge, full of brains. In reality, Peoples heads are smaller lacking brains and their a$$e$ are huge from sitting around not improving things.
Unfortunately my alternative mode of transportation is a motorcycle so I'm better off in the Jeep. I probably will stop by a hardware store to see if I can come up with a way to redirect the stream of water. Maybe even a little piece of rubber would do the trick?
Thanks for the suggestions. I know having a Jeep means I live without some luxuries, but when I'm dressed up I would prefer NOT to have water pouring down on my legs as I get in and out of my car. If I find a good solution I'll be sure to post it.
I also think it is a major design flaw. Not much you can do about it but complain.
My "fix" is an easy one that just involves selective parking. When it starts raining hard I just find a place to park where I can crawl the front tires up onto something. Be it a little mound of dirt, a curb, a parking stop or even a honda civic. Then all the water runs to the back, saving you from the jeep waterfall. Plus it looks cooler to park that way. Yes, I even flex at the mall.haha
Welome to Jeep world!! What you could do is remove the front roof panels completely. This would spread the area of water penetration. You would gradually get wet over a larger area, not get a shower all in one place. LOL!
Well, I just picked up an '09 Unlimited with a hard top and am utterly amazed at the stupidity of the way the top was designed. I am in South Louisiana - it rains A LOT here and I can not wrap my head around the water tray.
I plan on getting very creative to solve this problem and will post any successful or amusing solutions.
I am also a little sad that a kitten had to die in the course of this thread. Bad enough my legs are wet, but now kittens are dying.
