Rubicon Owners; Beware

Just going to take a minute to share what had just happened to my Rubicon Hard Rock.

At one of the three airports in SE FL someone stole my forward skid plate, however I didn't realize it until I gave it bath a several days later, and after a couple of trips to PBI, FLL and MIA parking garages.

I was beyond pissed off, considering my Jeep is never anywhere long enough for someone to do this, other than airports that I work out of, and pay for parking, but I digress. The forward skid plate should be here this week. However, I just learned today that wasn't the end of it!

Today I replaced my brake pads and in the process of doing so I noticed a cut wire bundle! The POS also stole my front stabilizer bar disconnect actuator AND cut my wire harness as well!!!

This was a VERY specific action, and it aggravates me to no end that it could be someone in the Wrangler community!!!

I believe it happened at PBI airport due to the way the parking spots are, you have to nose in at that airport. MIA and FLL I back in, and since this require some tools and time, I feel having the nose in gave them plenty of cover.

I called PBI airport parking garage, they were useless and told me to call the County Police Department that covers the airport. After speaking with them, I learned there are NO cameras within the parking garage, only the entrance and exit. Nothing like having a parking facility that's attached to the terminal with zero security cameras! Again I digress.

Point in all this, if you have a Rubicon pay close attention to them, especially in SE FL.

The actuator is about $1350. The skid plate is about $650. And I am still trying to figure out how much the wire harness will be, not to mention the PITA it's probably going to be to rerun it!

I live in Hell disguised as Paradise!

skid plate on a stock hard rock is much less than 650. the harness is like $125 but a pain to wire up depending on where they cut it.

May not be a Jeeper. Just another bottom-feeding thief who knows that part is worth $1,200. Lucky he didn't steal your airbags as well.

Hopefully your insurance will make you whole.

Unfortunately thats the world we live in today. The other day i was washing the Jeep and noticed someone tired to remove my dv8 cowling of the hood and scratched the paint to get to it. He was unsuccessful. If only i would have caught him in action.

Yikes, I have to admit in times like this it makes me glad that I drive a bare bones stock Wrangler "Sport" with almost nothing worth taking (though I am sure if someone wanted to they would find something)....

This was years ago, but someone tried to steal the carpeting out of my Wrangler, while it was parked out in my driveway.

The next morning, I got into my Wrangler, and noticed that the carpeting was hanging down around the corners. At first I just dismissed it as one of the Jeep quality things; the Velcro was failing. However, a while later, I noticed the carpeting all pulled up in the back, and off the wheel wells too.

If you don't need the convivence of the edisco you can install a regular sway bar with removable end links if you need to offroad for much cheaper

I am looking into them, and one with parking mode.

Which one to your have? How is the battery drain with yours?

I'm looking the Garmin Mini, but reading mixed reviews on the parking mode.

I have a different BlackVue in every car and use Power Magic Pro to make sure it’s not draining battery too much when it’s parked for longer periods of time. I’ve never had an issue with any of them. Caught a guy keying my Grand Cherokee a few years ago.

Thank you for the links, I have the anniversary bumper with the Hard Rock, and found one at a good price at Morris4X4.

Do you by chance have the part number for the harness?

Thanks

The company I work for uses a BlackVue camera for their fleet trucks and cars. Not sure what model. They are decent cams with motion sense recording when parked but i'm not impressed with the night vision or complete lack of it.

I got to ask WTF is the guys issue, hopefully charges were pressed for damages....I mean he was the @$$ hole who parked like a douche nozzle using up two spaces......I mean really......luck it wasn't my truck as it would have been sitting in his car the next time....(of course my truck is already banged up as it was a work truck so.....)

anyways I also have had many dash cams and every time I get a "new" vehicle the first "mod" I do (generally even before it leaves the dealers lot) is install the dash camera to ensure that if anything happens I have a way of showing proof. I hate to admit but my cameras have paid for them selves many times over as seen in this video.....

skip to roughly 2:29 for the event (give or take), this was in Lexington KY where I used to life (slightly loud music warning)

This other one was from the Mustang, not as crazy or horrific but still just shows how some people don't care if they have a larger car and close to minimal room to fit, again same city as the video above... (mild language warning as I was a bit annoyed about the person just shoving her way in.....)

I didn’t notice it until the next day where after I called the police and met them at the gym. I did capture the license plate and had seen this guy at the gym regularly. I never spoke to him or had any encounter with him. When he showed up in court he was in tears apologising. He claimed someone else was the intended victim.
The gym revoked his membership.

There are several models available. The night clarity is actually really good with the ones I own.

I find the bolts pointless of my doors, and then see they sell "locks" for them, and thought "that's unnecessary" then I looked into how hard/expensive it is to get half doors, and if I get them, I'm definitely getting locking bolts for them!

People are dumb

Okay, here's the deal. I bought a "broken" rubicon sway bar a while ago. I cleaned out the guts and put on a pneumatic actuator. I never tested the electronic actuator, and I still have it. If you want it, it's yours for the cost of shipping. That doesn't help with your wire bundle, but it's something. PM me if you want it.

No justification for side swiping , but be careful out there

I have a Z-Edge Z3 dashcam. Haven't captured anything hairy happening to my Jeep or another vehicle yet, but some a-hole got pissed at me last year for some unknown reason and kept slowing in front of me - probably was waiting to brake check me- and I reached for the cam to make sure it was turned on. He must have seen this in his mirror and immediately drove off!

oddly enough I got to catch a nice little road rage event on the way home which I thought was great...car wanted to pass in the on coming traffic lanes (over a double yellow) and the car they attempted to pass wasn't having it, part of me kind of hoped the car attempting the pass was going to hit someone, but they didn't....once they both got to a red light they were in the right turn lane so I just pulled up along side in the straight through lane and just got in front of both of them

not sure how to even respond to that. We live in screwed up world if you wanted some innocent person to get hit head on..even if it was only part of you that wanted to see it happen.

I wouldn't call wanted endangerment "innocent" as the road this took place on while being a less traveled road is still busy enough that during the days it is not advisable to pass over the double yellow due to the amount of cars on the road for ANY reason, luckily it happened on a weekend when there is minimal traffic on the road, and yes I would have stayed to show the officer the footage (perhaps I should pull the footage and post it up) but in my area I see stupid on a daily basis so....call me cynical I guess I would have felt sorry for any innocent bystander that got involved and I would have stayed to give my information and video to assist with not only the innocent person getting their car fixed but so the officer would have the ability to see what the hell happened.....and I was honestly hoping the two idiots that were road raging were the ones going to be in a wreak.....but as I said call me cynical....

I'm sure he was talking about the innocent car that would be coming the other way that the car attempting to pass would hit.

Beware - Wrangler spare tires are low hanging fruit for airport parking lot thieves, at least in Chicago.

Sadly I can't drive my modded Jeep to places I don't know for this very reason as everything can be bolted off.

I've noticed several Wranglers with bicycle cable locks run through the spare.
