Soft top zipper fix?

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and searched for a similar topic and didn't find one so I decided to create one and I'm reallllllly hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction...

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X soft top. I love the jeep except I have ran into a problem. The zipper that is attached to the actual top, on the back window, is broken and the back window cannot be removed. Does anyone know if this is something that can be fixed or do I need to buy a new top? I would appreciate any insight on if anyone is having similar issues. Thanks!

I have heard of people taking their top to a shop that does boat canvas for repairs. I have not used my stock soft top for quite some time but I do recall there being 2 zipper things (not sure what you call the part that moves) so if one does not work perhaps the other will let you get the window out.

I will see if there is a place here where I live that does boat canvas repair. Thanks for the tip. As for the 2 zipper things, I do know what you are talking about and there is 2. It's the teeth that are broken and if I take the window off, it's a pain in the ass to get back on because you have to literally line up the teeth of the zipper in order to actually zip it closed. Do the after market tops not have the 2 zippers? R they designed better?

I have a classic trektop it has a left and right zipper and a channel at the top the window slides into.
My top is made by bestop and they make the stock top also so I am guessing the quality is about the same. The original top zipper did feel more stiff but both are a pain to get started.

I have tried to local upholstery shop and they said that they wouldn't do the job because I need a rounded zipper and they only have flat ones.. =(

Yea, the zipper slides across the teeth pretty easily but you can tell its messed up when you look at it. It doesn't line up the way that it should and then when you get to the corners of the window, it gets stuck to the point where I have to put a screwdriver through the eye and make a handle I can yank on to get the zipper passed the broken teeth...

Fixing it yourself is a great option to save some money, but my local upholstery shop only charged me $70 to sew up a few big seams that were separated. It may be worth a few phone calls or visit a few for a quote!

Good luck getting it buttoned up.

If you can find a shop that does/repairs car convertible tops that would be your best bet.
