Sound System Upgrade

Hey all,

I've been browsing the forum for some information on best deck/speaker combo to upgrade this god awful sound system I'm currently working with. I did find some cool mods for the tweeters but I'm not too comfortable soldering...

I recently purchased a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport and currently have the Uconnect 130 AM/FM/CD/MP3 with 8 speakers, no premier sound upgrade, no amp. My sound is tinny and powerless. I listen primarily to hard rock and metal and like to crank it to feel it in my bones. When I jack up the volume, I feel nothing.

Any suggestions on replacing the deck and speakers (I'm trying to avoid having to tie in an amplifier just because I have very little wiring expertise). I'd like to keep the system to around $500-$600.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Buffhawk84

Either you're going to have to reset expectations, or increase your budget a bit.

You can replace all four 6.5" speakers with Infinity 6032si units (about $100), and the tweeter mod is really inexpensive. If you're not comfortable soldering a capacitor in, either ask a buddy for help, or buy replacement silk dome tweeters for about $50.

If you're replacing everything, I'd recommend getting a decent amp (Kicker ZX700-5) to drive everything. ($300).

You can buy a loaded Pioneer slim sub box with a 10" driver for about $125.

That leaves you pretty much nothing left over to get a decent double-DIN head unit though. You can spend anywhere from $399 to $1599, depending on the options you want, NAV, Bluetooth, maintain steering wheel controls, SAT radio, etc.

Check out the Crutchfield site, and either chat online with, or give their sales team a call. No affiliation, but they have a great selection of gear, and complete installation instructions. Wiring isn't that hard. Any 18 year old with basic tools and competence and a free day (or weekend if you really take your time) can do it.

Edit. My recommendations are for a '14. I've only got two speakers in the roll bar, two in the dash, plus the tweeters in the tombstones. Not sure where your 8 speakers are located, sorry.

The 15's basic sound is a different animal at this point, Some of the audiophiles will have some ideas as to what to run to achieve a decent quality sound.

In my 2010 Sahara, i just recently upgraded the stock Infinity sound system.Swapped out my stock sub with an 8'' Kicker and all 4 speakers were kicker as well that came with new tweeters.I followed through with getting a 700watt 4 Channel Kicker amp to handle the sub, speakers and tweeters just to see how it sounded first and they sound pretty damn good considering a 8" sub in that little enclosure box.All in all i spent somewhere in the high $700 and that was buying everything at Best Buy which is a HUGE HUGE HUGEEEE rip off!

Crutchfield always has good deals plus you get some free things like speaker brackets, wiring harnesses. I got a free amp install kit when i ordered from them and their tech support is great. Good luck to you.

Guess I'm just not ready yet...

I did find some solid information on Crutchfield's website. After researching a bit I found this photo online that describes the difference between the '14 and '15 sound systems and speaker placement.

Crutchfield does not currently offer any installation instructions for the 2015 wrangler unlimited so I'll just have to bite the bullet until more information becomes available.

That'll also give me more time to save up and add a woofer and amp to the system. After upgrading 4 6.5" speakers, replacing the receiver, and adding a sub and amp I'm probably looking at $1,300-$1,500 easily.

Any 2015 JK owners that have already gone through this??

Guess I'm just not ready yet...

I have to say.. The sound system in my 2015 JK is the only disappointing thing for me (and no auto lights). I didn't even consider the upgrade at the time and regret that
