Subwoofer Installation

I have a 2012 4-door Wrangler, but it came without the 8 inch sub in the back of the car. I was going to replace the 2 overhead speakers with 2 6.5 inch subs, but I've heard it rattles pretty bad. Does anyone know the best way to go about installing a subwoofer in the back? or would it be better to put a couple in the dash?

If you want to use the sub tub that comes with it, look for an 8" sub that will fit a .3^ enclosure. You will need to mat the box with Dynamat or equivalent to reinforce it and that will help dampen the vibration. Also need a sub spacer and of course a better amp for the sub. Best of luck!

It didn't come with a place to put a sub in the back. It looks just like the passenger side... Do you know if I can find the stock enclosure anywhere online to replace the plastic panel?

Try Craigslist for one. Or hit up a local Jeep group and see if you can swap with someone who wants a regular panel because they are upgrading to a larger sub and box. Otherwise there are quite a few threads here that have info on sub upgrades for those who don't have the stock one. Look into a self powered sub as an option. Kicker makes one and Infinity makes another.

Kicker HS8 Hideaway Sub

I'm still leaning toward this one. Won't take up any needed space.

I have a 2012 JKUR with the subwoofer and I'd like to get rid of it to make more room for storage. Would you consider trading your non-sub side panel for my side panel with the sub? You'll need to do the wiring of course.

Can anyone think of a reason this parts switch would not match or work?

Has anyone actually fitted an aftermarket 8" sub in that plastic box? which brand/model did you go with? Is the factory amp mounted back there too?

I would, but the other day when I was opening the tailgate it swung open really fast and ripped the guidebar out.. I'm not sure if it damaged the plastic panel or not.

If you're putting that sub. in the rear tool enclosure- make sure to check the depth & width of the entire tub top to bottom. Working on designing a sub that will replace the entire tub so we had it out this weekend. It is narrower at the base than at the top though it doesn't look it.
If you guys/gals don't swap your plastic cover vs. sub. enclosure let me know. Also want to tinker with a replacement sub for this enclosure- I'll pull it apart so it doesn't have to be perfect.

I think JL Audio makes one but it requires some rigging. I've seen it used/posted here somewhere but no idea what thread.

I will not be able to disassemble my subwoofer side panel in the Jeep until Saturday. Can anyone answer if there is a separate amp for the subwoofer and where it is located in the Jeep?

Thanks

If you don't have the Inifinity upgrade there isn't a seperate amp for the sub. Actually, the amp that comes with the factory upgrade runs everything including the sub. Check this out.

You can swap the panels out, just need to run speaker wire.

I spent today on the Jeep, got the hardtop put back on and the sub-woofer removed. Attached are most of the relevant pictures, including one of a small mark in the plastic. This does save room in the back, so I would still like to trade. OP, if you are still interested in a trade, post some pictures of your panel.

Thanks
