There was a Red Rock at the Supermarket Today, What is a Red Rock?

Well, I can answer some of that.

It is a limited edition (50 cars) 2016 JKU Rubicon. It is a unique red with red top and fenders. The fenders are stock, no high. It has a 2" lift, 315/70-17 BFG K02 tires on bead lock wheels. Interestingly, they mounted the tires on the beads in the rim and didn't not use the bead lock. That left a full bead between the rim and the bead lock, since it was a real beadlock. The tires were about an inch past the fenders.

The wheels appear available. They are Mopar 77072466AB spec'd as 17x8 with 12mm offset. That works to 5" backspace and is similar to the AEV wheels which are 17x8.5 with 6mm or 10mm offset. However, these are beadlocks that should prevent the tire from rotating on the rim and allow lower pressures. They seem to advertise in the $325-$330 range each, which is inexpensive for a true bead lock. I may have an error here...the wheels may have the beadlock ring as an extra cost item. The Red Rock I saw had a real bead lock ring.

The one I saw had Fox shocks and clearly a lift. The video indicates it had the Mopar lift which for $1500 includes Fox 2.0 Performance shocks (their street shock, no reservoir), springs, rear track bar relocation, bump stop spacers, and...a front double cardan driveshaft. It also appear to still be available, $1500-$1600.

It had the MMU rock rails that are also on the Recon and I think the Hard Rock. It had the steel bumpers and reinforced tailgate hinge. Headlights and fog lights were JW Speaker.

It is red, the hood decal said "Red Rock", and the interior was Amaretto Brown Katzkin leather seats...which I learned subsequently.

It may have the stronger diff covers that came later on the Recon, but not the other axle enhancements (inner C knuckles, tubes).

I thought the factory's use of the 35" 315/70-17

I didn't think to take a picture.

The Red Rock was an extremely limited edition. They only made 100 IIRC. 50 were sold on a raffle. I think you signed up and if selected were offered a chance to buy. If you turned it down, they went to the next person. If you did opt to buy, you could have it outfitted however you want (I think only with Mopar aftermarket parts though) at the shop they were partnered with (cant remember the name off the top of my head). The other 50 were sent to dealer lots. There was a signature of the builder on the dash. Really kind of neat, unique way to sell them.

The person who had it said it was as it came from the factory. Obviously not. Compared to yours it has different wheels and tires and a lift kit.

It didn't come with 35" tires and beadlocks?

They could be individually customized at richard petty’s shop before delivery

I thought it was a very specific package of upgrades, that were added by Petty's shop. I am not sure if deviations (additions, subtractions?) were allowed.

BTW, the Red Rock was delivered back to the factory by Petty for shipment to the dealer. So, technically, even a modified Red Rock is "as it came from the factory".

No they came bone stock from the factory after the decals, plaques, interiors, HD spare tire carriers, etc. were installed. We had a choice to have them delivered to the dealer straight from the factory... buy factory stock or have the dealer install the Mopar Red Rock off-road package or have them shipped to Richard Petty's shop to have the supercharger and Mopar Red Rock off-road package installed.

If we chose to send them to Richard Petty from the factory, they performed the install work there and then shipped them to the dealer to be sold to the public. The Richard Petty Red Rocks show they were shipped to RP on the window stickers.

Everyone had choices how they wanted them equipped... in part, or in whole, with or without a supercharger.

Here's a window sticker..

Some RR facts

There were only 50 (48 auto, 2 Manual trannys) produced in 2016 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Red Rock Jeep Club in Moab Utah, you know the ones that put on the Easter Jeep Safari every year.

All are numbered on the pass side dash grab handle 1/50, 2/50, 3/50 and so on

The first picture that M998dna posted (in a post above) is how they shipped from the factory and what you got for the window sticker price and there were a few sold by dealerships like that across the country. (Exact number unknown) Basically a Loaded Rubicon with every option available in 2016 plus a few up grades not available at the time, like the LED headlights and fog lights, taillight shields, fuel door.

The majority of them had the Red Rock off road up grade items added at either Richard Pettys garage in North Carolina or it could be added at the selling Jeep dealership too.
I think but am not postive that all the Petty modified ones were signed on the dash by the King himself.

Items included were
315/70/17 BFG KO2 tires (34.5 inch)
Mopar dual mount Bead lock rims
A 2 inch Mopar lift kit, springs, shocks front driveshaft and so on
A Mopar Warn/Rubicon winch with synthetic line
Small front bumper hoop
A CB radio
Jeep diff covers
Reinforced tailgate bracket
and some other small things I'm probably forgetting

The first picture that I posted (in a post above) is what those items looked like installed.

Petty and dealerships tacked onto to the sticker price what they thought they could get for the extras I posted above, any where from $5,000 to $10,000 to $20,000 over sticker, yes some sold for $80,000

There was an initial raffle offered before the Red Rock was built to people who wanted one. Remember there were only gong to be 50 produced of this model for across the country.
The raffle was for the ability to be put on the list to buy one.

After they were produced and the price tags started coming out some people changed their mind and then the dealerships were able to sell them to who ever wanted one.

Some states got multiple Red Rocks to sell and some states didn't get any.

That's my perception of reality and I'm sticking to it.

Tailight guards
Fuel door cover

.
@Hard Rocker ...

That's pretty accurate... two exceptions.

1. Richard Petty's signature on the dash was optional (assuming it was shipped there for the supercharger and/or Red Rock off-road pkg install).

2. The Mopar black fuel door, taillight guards, hard top headliner, etc. came with the 24N Red Rock sales code (see window sticker).

Here's the parts list below that was included in the Red Rock off-road pkg.

Yup your right, forgot the taillight covers and fuel door were part of the original factory Red Rock parts.

I was going over in my head as I was typing the post what was on my RR and forgot all about the Jeep diff covers...

I fixed my original post so it wouldn't be confusing to any one on the facts.

Wasn't sure on the Petty signature, seen some pictures of it on the dash, just didn't know if it was on all of his or not.

Thanks for the RR list.

Interesting that the LED lights were JW Speaker even though they must have had the OEM LED lights, which I believe are better than the JW Speaker, if not already in production, at least with more than 50 sets made.

The wheel part number and its successors all seem out of production.

It is interesting that they didn't include the 4" lift kit or the high mount fenders as options. The lift kits seem to be available, but I'd wager that is just new old stock (NOS). The high mount fenders which people want, some people need as damage replacements, and are standard with the JKR, are also discontinued. The 2-door's high mount fenders are still available, probably also NOS.

The factory LED lights came out the following year...

Keep in mind the Red Rock was a Mopar Jeep Performance showcase.

Mopar-branded LED headlights made prior to 2017 were indeed manufactured for Mopar by JW Speaker.

Probably didn’t even make it in a REAL JEEP version. The 2 door, only in the Soccer mom version mall crawler! What a shame. The two door gets no respect.

Lights weren't available until 2017 as an option

Mopar bead lock Rims are still available from multiple sources

https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/fu...wrangler-jk-jl

They didn't do the 4 inch lift kit because that kit or any other lift kit over 2 inches will automatically void your factory warranty

The 2 inch lift kit and all other parts in the Red Rock edition are factory warrantied under the bumper to bumper warranty.

Jeep is still producing new factory lift kits.

https://store.mopar.com/accessories/...7070088AC.html

The high clearance fenders didn't become standard on the Rubicon until the JL version came out.

My guess is the lift kits are new old stock. The car has been out of production for 2+ years. Note, they ran out of high mount fenders and didn't run another batch. That put buyers in a lurch if a fender got damaged.

The wheels on that link are hyper expensive. And they have the backspace and offset wrong. It is a 5" backspace which is a +12mm offset at 8" (without the beadlock) and +6mm at 8.5" wide with the beadlock.

Most beadlocks seem to have 0 offset or negative offset. The only other positive offset beadlock wheel I can think of is from AEV.

No, the backspace is 4.4"... see page 15.

The 2" lift is still in production. See page 9.

LED headlights and fog lights. See page 35.

The only items that have been discontinued are the Jeep branded front and rear differential covers.

High mount fenders weren't part of the Red Rock off-road package.

Still available and in production are not the same. I'm sure they have many pallets of kits left. I don't think anyone is making any more.

That said, the 2" kit looks very attractively priced, especially since it includes a front driveshaft.

The 4" kit looks like an absolute steal. It has the Fox reservoir shocks, rear control arms, front driveshafts, front and rear track bar relocation, a high steer kit, front and rear brake lines, and front and rear sway bar links for $2200.

However, the kit instructions say:"It is recommended that this kit be used with the Mopar flat top fenders flares (77072342) if 37” tires are being used for clearance." A 4" kit is overkill for 35" tires, and the flares are no longer available. They are out of production and they ran out of stock, underestimating the demands. Compared to aftermarket kits, they are spaced for 5" backspace where others are often 4.75", 4", or less.

My guess is none of these JK parts have actually been produced since 2015-2016, and this is just inventory. It is a shame about the fenders.

Note, 4.4" backspace on an 8" rim is -3mm offset, on an 8.5" rim (the wheel with bead lock in use) is -9mm. It is 5" backspace with +12mm offset without the beadlock and +6mm with it. Like with AEV wheels, the slight positive offset lets them keep most of the tire under the fenders.
