Ticking noise in steering wheel

I wanted to share as this may come up in the future for someone. I bought my new jeep and then a couple of months went by and I started hearing a ticking noise in my steering wheel. We after a while it was just too much and I took it in. Went to one dealer and he said he replaced the entire steering column but the sound was still there. Then he said he has an email out to the designers of the column to see what they think it is. Well three months goes by and no info and when I call he says he is still waiting. I think said this dealer is a joke - taking it to the place i bought it and told them to fix it - its brand new. Well after three returns they finally got the damn thing quiet. OMG what a mess and headache that turned out to be. Attached link is a video of the noise and the fix.

Hope it helps the poor soul that has this like I did. I would hate to see a person go thru two dealers and multiple fixes and promises that its fixed to just drive you freaking crazy.

Have a wonderful day.

What yr is your jeep? I have a 2018 jk ww 2 dr and i get a noise from my steering wheel, usually when I first turn the steering wheel. It sounds like a springy noise. My first thought was clockspring but i haven't really inspected it yet. Thanks Mike

I have a 2018 JK Willys 4 door. They thought the same thing with my Jeep. They thought it was the clock spring. They replaced it 2 times to my knowledge. They even did an adjustment on the column and said it was good now. I tested it and there was no noise when I turned the wheel and thought - WOW - they finally fixed it. But the next day - the noise was back. So mine wasn't a clock spring or any type of silly adjustments...its was that part in the video they replaced that fixed the problem. I to date have never heard that stupid clicking noise anymore. It must have been a bad factory product on some assembly line that was faulty.

I hope this helps you. I know how it feels to have that clicking sound in your wheel. I hope yours gets resolved soon.

Sam

Hi Mike,
We certainly understand why this may be frustrating. If you decide to have your dealer take a closer look, please send us a PM. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to assist.

Brought it to the dealership today, they replaced the clockspring. I picked it up and its still make the sound. And now the key in ignition message is now coming on, with the key out of the ignition. Have to bring it back again.
