Just installed a set of 285/75 17 on my JKU. Looking at various charts for best all around tire pressure to run. For those that are running this size for awhile on a JKU what is your recommended tire pressure. Don't have a lot extra weight except an after market front bumper. Also don't have the jeep crammed full of extra gear.
A single chart is not the answer. There are so many factors to consider:
Tire weight
Wall rating (C, D, E)
Type of driving you do most (city street under 35mph, over 35mph, freeway, dirt/gravel)
Also, the total weight of the vehicle. Do you have aftermarket bumpers, winch, roof rack, skid plates, etc
How many miles are on your shocks and springs? Are they aftermarket?
With all of that to consider, between 26-36psi is a fair range to work within. My advice is to start higher on the range, drive and if its too rough or harsh, drop it by 2psi. Wash, rinse, repeat until you get to a place that's comfy.
Also, something I do when I leave town since I have a 5-6 hour drive to the next major city. I air up for freeway travel to help increase mpg some. It works. If wind were not a factor, I can see 3mpg difference from say 28psi day to day to 34psi for long freeway travel. Using round numbers... it takes 3 tanks of fuel to get to Dallas and home. If I add 3mpg, thats nearly a 1/2 tank of gas in savings.
I suggest you do the chalk test, on a flat even road. And see at what PSI it wears the most evenly at.
