Well my next upgrade is an auto locker for the front axle. I’ve researched until my head hurts. I finally got a chance to go wheeling in my friends jku with a torq lock auto locker. It’s an updated locker made by the company that makes Aussie locker. On the street it was quiet and unobtrusive (installed front axle). Off-road it was a beast. I was impressed with what that Jeep could do. For the type of wheeling I do this will work well for me. The fact that installed it’s over 600 bucks cheaper than a true trac that I was looking into and I’m ready to pull the trigger.
I've got the TORQ in my D30. It works great in just about all conditions. It even ratchets easier when turning in 4lo than a typical lunchbox. Climbing is solid! The only time we ever notice it is in a sharp turn in to a parking spot and you get a slight ratcheting. Otherwise it's invisible on the street.
I chose the TORQ because it wanted low cost for the D30... It didn't make sense to me to invest a bunch in to that axle. If I break it, I'll put a D44 in it.
Well now it's a waiting game. I ordered the Torq Locker. It was a tough decision after doing all the research. Watching everything I could on Youtube and reading all the post I could find. I would have loved to put selectable lockers in but I am out on trails a couple times a month and haven't gotten stuck yet even with open diff's. I just wanted additional capability and could not justify the cost of more expensive options. The deciding factor was all the good reviews I've read about Aussie lockers and the new upgraded Torq Locker. Wheeling in my friends Jeep with a Torq locker in the front really opened my eyes. I should receive the part next week and hopefully install it next weekend. I will report back my experience.
I think it is decent looking, but I am confused on how it is over $600 cheaper than a TrueTrac. A TrueTrac is less than $600. That must be a big difference in install costs. I wonder why.
I paid 399.00 for the torq lock, a trutrac is a little over 500.00, master install kit 120.00 plus 4 hours shop labor. I can install the torq lock in my driveway myself, no special tools needed. Easily a 600.00 savings
I just installed the same model in my Jeep JK D30 front (TL-13227). I get a pretty loud bang at times on tight left handers in a parking lot. I have seen no issues during normal driving conditions. Still in the testing phase.
Agree, tight left in a parking lot and I can make it ratchet... But it's not often and doesn't bother me at all. But it seems to work well out on the trail.
The locker is the most beneficial when you might have a tire in the air like when rock crawling... For just more traction, I would also choose the TrueTrac or Powertrax Grip Pro if you want to save a few $$$'s.
It is all a matter of what you want.
I would rather have a Truetrac, or up front I would rather have a selectable locker. But if the auto locker works for you, great.
Are you re-gearing? Or just having the auto locker installed.
I can get the powertrax grip pro for $350 shipped. What else do I need?
