Truth About Cars: Petition Demands FCA Spinoff Jeep

So a few weeks ago I started a petition for Jeep owners to push FCA to spin off Jeep. Fiat is currently trading on Jeep to keep their failing company afloat. There is good news in the short-term because FCA is WAY focused on Jeep right now. The bad news is they can only boil the fat off the bone for so long. Eventually they're going to collapse under the crushing debt they are carrying and will be forced to sell Jeep. After all, Jeep has a long history of keeping failing companies above water.

The petition now has about 1300 people who have signed it.

The Truth About Cars just wrote up a nice little article about it.

It's not real likely that they would really spin it off, but I wanted a way for owners to let FCA know that we're watching and won't be happy if they cannibalize the Jeep brand to save their crappy little tissue boxes.

So, its a petition demanding FCA spin off Jeep, because you afraid that FCA might need to sell off Jeep?

That makes lots of sense.

FCA doesn't give a what you, I, or your petition says about watching, unless its backed up with an ownership of a significant number of voting shares of stock.

Please site a source for each of these statements. Thanks.

If you have a golden goose, you do not sell off said golden goose. You also do not mess with the golden goose, because said goose is golden.

Are you a stock owner, then proceed through regular channels. If you're not then it's none of your business how the company is run.

All auto companies operate that way, profitable lines subsidizing less profitable lines. Chrysler knows they have a gold mine and are improving the model vs letting it go stagnate and milking it to death.

It would be far more likely that Fiat or Chrysler listen to owners about design of new models rather than sell the brand off. They have to keep Jeep selling well or die. Pissing us off to any large extent would be suicide.

If you want to have a say, I'd start there.

If someone started a petition for me to split the companies I own, I'd tell them to mind they're own damn business.

They appear to be open to feedback I got an email survey from them last week asking about what I like and don't like about my wrangler and what I want to see on the next one.

Like others said, if Fiat is counting on Jeep to keep the entire company afloat, why would they ever sell it? If you were Fiat, would you sell? No way!

Why did you create another thread for your stupid petition?

Jeep can never, and will never be it's own company. It would never survive. And considering it and Ram keep the lights on at FCA, they won't sell it.

Where in the F**k does somebody get the arrogance to suggest to a company what they can and can't do with their assets? Seriously. How does somebody say that is a good idea? You are a consumer. Buying a Latte from Starbucks does not make you a vested share holder. You are free to consume elsewhere.

You have felt the Bern too much is my guess?

this is old fashioned market research, Jeep has been doing it for years along with every other major auto manufacturer.

As you said they are open to suggestion but I am sure they aren't open to demands like the OP states.

Yeah I get them all the time but this one seemed to go more in depth about pain points than any other survey I've seen. Typically I bail out after the first page but this one went into very specific depths but then again this is my first "new" Jeep as opposed to new to me Jeep so it could just be their typical surveys.

Be careful what you wish for. First Jeep could never make it on its own or if it did we would end up paying much more than we do now. Second if Jeep was spun off it would probably be bought up by China.

It could never be spun off, it's too integrated to Chrysler. Every time the whole thing has been purchased so it would need to be Chrysler as a whole that sold and Fiat won't do that. No one is buying their crappy Fiats or Alfas, Jeep and Ram are what support the entire company.

Jeep would not survive as an independent brand, as much as some of us would love them to be. In as much that Ram is a spin off, it's still an FCA product. FCA tanks, Ram goes with it.

Stink eye says, What!

Everybody protestin' and petitioning gettin' all O-fended and shit... it's like the 60's showed up and asked for it's seat back again.

Only difference is, Companies stopped "pretending" they actually care.

Actually I think they absolutely should spin off jeep. But just the Wrangler. Maybe bring back the willys brand?

So you have jeep with all the lovely soccer mom 4 doors and renegades anc cute little fiat based crap that people buy, then you have willys which is the 2 door wrangler straight to the roots. Rough and rugged, noisy with straight axles etc. Keep it iconic. This would keep the wrangler from being watered down to nothing in the next 10 years like the land rover, and whatever became of the ford bronco and fj40s.

Instead we get soccer moms buying wranglers and complaining about it wandering when there is high wind. Oh and wind noise!

All for it.

With the golden goose reference....they are taking the golden goose which squaks makes noise and recieves bad consumer reviews and will eventually change it into the golden goose that lays pink eggs. Because thats what the customers give for feedback. Then your golden goose is no longer a golden goose ya dig? They need to differentiate the luxury and standard suv's from the more rugged stuff.

Lets face it. There is less "jeep" in a damn wrangler every generation. Fatter/longer with more and more weight.
