Well, crap

My bestop rear cargo tray (that mounts to the rear gate and sits over the spare) for which I paid for expedited shipping, arrived today

Have a camping trip tomorrow and really needed the extra storage.

Turns out that once you install the mounting bracket, you can't put the bumpstops back on as the holes are blocked.

I usually like Bestop but I'm not too happy with them right now.

Sorry, just venting.

No way you can make some simple bumpstops that fasten to the front and back of the tray?

Post pics.

Not in a position where I can post a pic. Simply put, the bracket places a vertical square tube right at the edge of the bumpstop hole.

Let me also add:

The mounting hardware for this thing weighs a ton. I was ready worried about adding extra weight to the gate. This doesn't make me feel any better.

Also there is no gasket to go between the gate and the solid metal mounting brackets. No way am I putting this thing right on the paint.

Add in the fact I can't reattach my bumpstops and you've got a product ill be returning when I get back from my trip.

Now to go figure out how I'm gonna carry all my crap now. Not happy.

Is this the product?

If so, that's pretty neat.

I'm not sure how you can be upset if that's the one. The installation instructions show that you remove the spare tire bumpers.

https://www.quadratec.com/Assets/Installation/98347.pdf

Sorry you came up short with this mod.

No, meant in the long run maybe you could come up with something or the collective wisdom on here could.

Drill a hole through the channel bracket already installed at the same height as the bumpstop hole. Measure how much space between bracket and spare tire. Cut down the bumpstop with an exacto knife to the measure. Insert bumpstop in hole drilled.

And enjoy all the rattle coming from the tray as the spare tire hits on it (assuming of course, dont really know how tight its torqued to the gate)

Yeah, I read the instructions before I bought it (always do, so I know what I'm getting into) and I did read that it said to remove the bumpstops. I just didn't notice that it never says to put them back in.

Just seems kind of stupid, as bumpstops are really needed to hold the spare solid. Can't believe they built the system this way.

Agreed, just under a time crunch right now and wasn't in the mood for any issues.

That could be done, given the time. And I'd also have to make some sort of gasket to put between the mount and the tailgate else the paint would be toast.

I'll reassess when I get back from my trip, but as of right now, I'm leaning towards returning this and getting something that had a little more thought put into it during the design phase.

took a stab at installing, only to realize the kit doesn't even come w/ plugs for the factory bumpstop holes.

Too many red flags for me on this mod. It's going back to Quadratec.

however, she will be wearing nothing but a bikini top and cutoffs the whole trip so she's forgiven.

Do you run without the back seat? If not that frees up a lot of space.

Back seat is removed.

We're camping primitive for 3 days. This ain't my first rodeo, but its the first in my Jeep. Previously had a Yukon so space wasn't an issue.

Dad is bringing his hitch carrier but it appears it may not fit past my spare.

Am playing loadmaster now to see if I can fit everything.

Dang.

Well. I don't like the idea of anything hanging on that gate myself. Maybe the bad luck with that rack prevented a worse outcome with the rack/weight.

I just did the same this last weekend. Packed for 3 days of camping and offroading. Even had my spare back there as well. Two ice chests and a rubbermaid container for camping stuff, tent, 2 person sleeping bag, 2 camping chairs, propane stove, folding table, my back pack with clothes, her duffle bag and backpack of clothes, jackets and rain coats stuffed in a trash bag, pillows and two rolled up sleeping mats, etc. I barely had any visibility looking back. Being good at Tetris helps

I have one of those rear carriers for my hitch. You have to go to Harbor Freight and get a hitch extender in order for it to clear the spare. A 2 door has absolutely no trunk for trips.

Sadly we're not sharing tents, but I'm working on it.

Somehow managed to fit everything in the Jeep. Extra cargo tray would have been nice for a spare cooler with ice, but at least I'm not having to leave anything behind.

Have to commend my TF coils as the rear has no perceptible sag to it.
