The beauty of Jeeps is that every one of them an be unique in it's own way according to the owners preference. I say to each their own.

I have the black top and flares. I like them. I also like the look of the painted tops and flares but would be worried about scratches and door dings.

Prefer painted fenders and, in the past, a black top...now that I have a color matched top, I swear it's 200 degrees cooler!! Of course, it's also the highly polarizing 'Dune" color, so to each his own!

I can see how people buying a new Jeep would want to get other's opinions, who already made the choice.

One of the things I've noticed, is that the black fenders don't show scratches. So, because I lack focus when on the trail, that's a good thing...

I have the body color top, which has done amazing about not getting permanent trail stripes.
Most of the year the soft top is on, and down stored in a boot. So not sure that really counts.

On my white JKUR I went with the black top for looks and added the headliner for thermal control.
Therein lies your problem. You should have the hard top off and a Spidewebshade installed. Fixes the problem of the black roof.

I shopped hard for a year and a half before I actually purchased my Jeep. It all came down to the color and the model. I looked at both Sport S's and Sahara's, but I leaned towards Sahara's.

When I was looking at 2012's based on top color choices:
*Sahara Tan - painted top and fenders
*Winter Chill - painted top and fenders
*Flame Red - painted fenders, black top.
*Natural Pearl Green - painted top and fenders, but could go either way. (I didn't realize how nice this color was until it was too late).
*Black Forrest Green - could go either way, but actually preferred black top with painted fenders because it helped show the difference between that particular shade of green, which looked like black if it was not in direct sunlight.
*White - Last option, painted top and fenders
*Dozer - I didn't really consider Dozer until the 2013's were rolling out. But this was a color that I preferred black fenders and a black top. The color grew on me, but was cut early for the 2013's.

For the 2013's, I considered the Sport S, Sahara, and Moab. The Moab was Sahara based, but came with non painted fenders (but could have a painted top).

*Commando Green: Could really go either way. I actually ordered a Commando Green Sport S before I ended up with my Billet Sahara.
*Billet - painted top and fenders...clearly.
*Dozer - black fenders, but could go with a painted top on a Moab only.

If Jeep would have offered better colors in the Moab, I would probably have one. But they only came in black, white, Rock Lobster, Gecko, and Dozer. For some crazy reason, Jeep had replaced Flame Red with Rock Lobster for most of 2013, and Dozer was scrapped early in the year as well. Neither Commando Green nor Billet were offered in the Moab. Ordered a Commando Green Sport S, but found out I could not get a rumored saddle cloth interior. Saw Billet in person when if first came out, loved it, ordered a Sahara with a matching top and saddle leather.

So basically, depends on the color and the model. I prefer tan interiors over black, and not all colors look that great with tan interiors.

I like the painted tops over non-painted for mostly every color. However, i do not like painted fenders for the most part, but some colors can pull it off.

I like them in general, but depends on the color.

Dozer was a bit much in one color, but Amp'd looked great, the same can be said of Gecko and Commando, Crush and Sunset, etc.

Just my two pints,

Aldo

Body color looks too showy on a jeep to me. But then, so does a newly-washed & waxed jeep

I love the look of my true blue pearl top and fenders. That being said, I have put some serious pinstripes on them driving through the woods and mesquite "orchards". Of course they match the doors, body, hood and everything else that is pinstriped! The fenders also get some wicked water spots on them from puddles that are really hard to get off. I might have opted for the black fenders but I don't regret the painted hard top. I'm actually considering having Camoliner do the matched Kevlar paint on the fenders - best of both worlds!!

When shopping for my Jeep I wanted black fenders but they didn't have a sport with the options I wanted. They told me to pick a Sahara from the overflow lot and they would give me a great deal. I did, with the options I wanted and they gave me an awesome deal............and the painted fenders have grown on me. I like them a lot now.

For those of you that have painted fenders, and want black, they're super easy to install...found a set of take-offs from a customizing shop, paid $100 for all 4, and took about an hour to remove and install on my 11 Sahara (red).

The only issue I find with black fenders is that they fade over time. My hard too has started to fade in a few areas.

My 08 JKUS has the painted fenders and they look great to me. Especially in rescue green.

I love the body coloured fenders and hard top, but couldn't find a Dune JKU with the body coloured top, only fenders. I don't do much serious offroading, so the fenders getting scratched up badly isn't a huge concern.

I am *really* glad I ended up with the black top though- I'm not too gentle with the freedom panels, and don't typically put them in the carry bag. I take them off and place them either in the trunk area, or the back seat. As a result, there are scratches all over them. I can easily plastidip or spray them black, so not too concerned. If they were painted, they'd be proper buggered by now, and it would look like crap.

Buy some Turtle Wax Ice. It doesn't put white wax on your black fenders.

I really like my white JK with black hardtop and fenders. I think the contrast looks really good.

I like them. But then I switch over to the soft top for the summer and realize how much better (IMO) it looks with a little more color variation. White body, white fenders, and white top is too much at times, but I am camouflaged in the winter so thats a plus.

I think if I had to do it over again I'd go painted top, but non painted fenders.

Came here to say this! You can actually apply it to the fenders to sorta freshen up the black.

As for the original question at hand, I'm not a fan. But I'm glad it's a option for the folks that do like it.

What about "Back to Black" for the plastic fenders (which I'll have on my Willys when it arrives)?
