Why are people jerks?

So usually when something like this happens to someone I know, I always assume well you must have pissed someone off, or your a shitty driver. Today I had my jeep parked on the street around my neighborhood and someone spit a giant snot wad on my window. Did I do something wrong? Beats me. Just don't understand why people are such dicks. I work my ass off so I can have this vehicle. Why don't people get that?

Probably some jack*ss kid. Most kids have zero respect for anybody, much less their property. A lot of them could use a good *ss kicking.

at least your window was closed... was borrowing my dad's '52 MG (little old fashony British sports car type thingy) due to my truck being broke, came out of BK to find a nice puddle of chew spit combo on the seat...

guess its just easier to dis someone else's ride than it is to work hard for their own?

Someone with a Jeep that kind-of looked like yours, blew thru a red light cutting this dude off, and then waved an "apology" back with his finger?

Don't know that I'd recommend that behavior to anyone, but it sure feels good to vicariously enjoy that kick through your steel-toed boot!

Sometimes nothing feels better than your foot solidly connecting with something that needs to feel your foot connecting with it. A medium-sized (45-ish) pound dog got out of someone's electric fence recently and charged me in the street of my own neighborhood, growling and fangs bared. When it got 4 feet away, coming fast, my primal brain parts took over and before I had really thought about anything, my foot was connecting with the underside of it's jaw. With everything I had. (There's no "part-way control knob" when the adrenaline is flowing -- only an on-off switch.)

Dog flipped up and over, landed on its back. Slunk away whimpering. This was a couple months ago. Dog seems to be fine, but everytime I walk down that street if it's out, it runs back into the garage. I love dogs and felt a little bad (I'll pet anything that will come out to the street when I walk by), but MAN, did that kick itself feel good!

Why is it every 4th of July, people embark on my local off road area from everywhere and spray paint crap all over the rocks? Why do they leave all their trash and broken bottles all over. Why is it almost every time we go wheeling, it turns into a trash recovery trip ? Why is it so many people don't know about staying on designated trails. We are out fighting a war on trail closures all the time. Do you at least give to any of the people who fight the fight every day? Ever hear of Blue ribbon coalition?,Tread lightly?, do you give? ever go out and pick up 7 of the largest trash containers of trash made in a single day from the trail with 50 other people? I didn't think so. Quit your crying about some spit and come out and make a difference. Do you ever go off road? If so, by you doing nothing to help is worse then some one spitting on your Jeep. Just a little different perspective on things like the bigger picture. I will go wheeling tomorrow for hours with my wife and two dogs. We will pick up every piece of trash we see all day long, just like usual. Please help, it feels great !

I was guilty of doing something along these lines when I was 20 or so. Drove a truck with 14 inches of lift and 39's to the oll WallyWorld and when I came out some DB in a big spoilered ricer had pulled up only a couple of inches away from my drivers side(a good 6 inches or so into my parking spot) to where I couldn't walk between the car and my truck. The idiot didn't even pull all the way up into his parking spot. Yes I could have crawled in from the passenger side and went along my way but in all my youthful stupidy I just walked across his hood and left 3 big RedWing shaped dents on it. I feel about it now, point being young people do stupid stuff.

It all starts with poor parenting. Not taking the time to teach their children manners and respect toward others, the belongings of others and the very environment they live in. So they grow up being being big A-holes.

Consider This

World Population in Billions:
1 Billion in 1804
2 Billion in 1927
3 Billion in 1959
4 Billion in 1974
5 Billion in 1987
6 Billion in 1999
7 Billion in 2012
8 Billion projected in 2026
9 Billion projected in 2042

Depending on your beliefs, it took from ~5000 to potentially 250,000 years, or more to hit 1 billion. And it's only taken a little over 200 years for the entire world population to skyrocket from 1 billion to 7 billion!

I think that there have always been that same ratio of assholes to decent folks in the world by percentage. The difference now is there's just a whole lot more of everybody by sheer quantity.

so are you always a prick or just today? I am glad I don't have the same prospective as you. I wheel weekly or more and pick up trash and it would piss me off if someone hocks a snot ball on my rig.

But your projections show population growth slowing, at an increasing rate. (5-6B took 12 years, 6-7 billion took 13, 7-8 projected at 13, 8-9 projected at 18 years.) So the rate of growth of assholery should be slowing also.

As well as the amount of trash found on trails, if I might tie all this together seamlessly.

I refer to it as "generation entitlement"
Kids have no respect today. No respect for their parents, peers, teachers, law, nothing.
Kids are given anything and everything without earning any of it. Parents do this because it's "easier" than listening to their kid bitch about stupid stuff. Parents are "too busy" to teach their kid anything - from respect to socializing. Same reason when you go to a restaurant, the kid is always on a phone or tablet. "It keeps them quiet" has been the new way of raising a kid - as opposed to teaching the kid to sit quietly at the table and have a conversation with the rest of the family. But then again, chances are the rest of the family is on their phones anyway.

You can't legislate common sense and good behavior. At this point, not having permanent damage is a plus. I understand where you're coming from. Since I was a kid, whether I parked next to someone's beater or a high end Benz I treated it the same. I was always a car person and was taught to always treat someone else's possessions with respect regardless of condition. The 100 dollar beater might be the best someone can do and it should be respected.

well as a happy member of the "sitting in rocking chair on the front porch, shaking my fist at those darn kids playing on the yard" group, I got to wonder...
isn't this the same thing old people said about my generation when I was young?
haven't old people been saying this about young people since the beginning of recorded time?
sure some minor details change from generation to generation, but the end assumptions always seem to stay the same...

You're on the money. I agree. To your questions, I think the answer is :
Yes
yes
and yes.
I think the only difference is now the former generation doesn't have Elvis to blame and it was difficult to have the rotary dial Princess phone in the restaurant.

Sometimes I really wish Hammurabi's code was the law of the land.

Just today some dumba$$ without insurance backed into my wife's car. Do the police come to file a report and give the guy a ticket? Nope. It occurred at a car wash, which is private property. The guy offers to help me pay for the damage. Yeah, sure you will buddy. I ask him how much money he has in his bank account. He says "none." Of course you don't.

It's nice that people can just drive without insurance and nothing's done to them if they damage another person's property. Yet, all the suckers who pay for insurance get shafted. Gotta love society.

I really hope karma is real.

On a positive note, he was stupid enough to let me take a photograph of his driver's license.

My mom said there wasn't as much as a problem when she was younger. Yes, kids are bastards and there's a reason we call them that, but it is the parents. When my parents were younger, the teachers actually did something when you acted out. Now, you can't do anything in fear of a lawsuit because your bastard got their feelings hurt. Society has gotten way worse. Look at the incident in McKinney. If that girl had been raised to RESPECT and LISTEN to authority, she wouldn't have eaten dirt in front of everyone. Or like that "ghetto mom gets tazed" lady. If she hadn't been acting like that, and had controlled her kids, she never would have rode the lightning. But, who am I to speak. I was taught respect.
