Wife too short; “lift” for pax seat?

My wife and I have done a couple long weekend trips now in the Jeep and this past weekend was the first since installing the Vector off-road e-dock.

She hates it because it is in her line of sight (which is already limited in a Jeep, if we’re honest).

I don’t want to lose the e-dock (i love it) but we’re planning a 2+ week trip this Fall and I need to figure out an alternative solution.

Any ideas or experience?

I have two ideas so far:

1) aluminum block spacers under the 4 seat bolts and longer bolts

2) find a take-off seat from something compatible that has height adjustment like the driver’s side. (Does anyone know of such a seat that would bolt in?)

Does the seat belt buckle attach to the seat frame or the floor? You might need 5 bolts.

I would think an adult booster seat would be the easiest solution, and provide additional cushion....

My wife doesn’t like how low the seat is either. Hopefully a good solution will come up here!

I thought about that option, but I'm not sure she'd want to spend two weeks of cross-country travel in that saddle... Plus she doesn't think of herself as "short" and I don't want to remind her - she's a redhead with the fierce personality to match. :-)

I started researching the driver's seat base for the RHD versions, but as near as I can tell, it would end up costing more than $600 and I'm still not sure it would work...

Have you put her in the driver's seat to confirm it's tall enough when raised? I'm not short (or tall... 6ft even) but I like to sit up high, and I was a little disappointed at max height.

But if you conclude that would work, maybe check ebay, there are a LOT of part-outs there.

Or mug the mailman.

Might need pictures of the wife to formulate an appropriate solution.

they work great. My wife is also short and had trouble seeing offroad from the passenger seat and these made a world of difference for her enjoyment off road.

My wife is 5'3" and uses the seat pad sold in the Walmart automotive section. She only uses it for off road trips but she likes it because she can see out past the hood.

I agree with using that kit. Anything else, raises some safety concerns for me.

I can’t believe I just said that.

Take out the Vector and get a double mount 67 Design. Increase every ones field of view exponentially.

Definitely not pulling out the e-dock. Thats why I'm trying to find another solution. :-)

Looking to buy the vector bar this week to mount my GoPro and cell phone. Just how much higher is it off the dash? Maybe I should reconsider?

Come on... take even two inches all the way across the front dash and toss out your visibility on an already small front window (as noted by the OP limited line of site). Sure you can hang a ton of stuff on it, but seriously, do you really need it?

You're right, and "49-CFR-part-571-standard-202-complaint head restraint device" really spices up the joke.

I'm with you. That was one of my first issues with downsizing from a full size truck to the JKU. Just my phone mount I was using in the truck seemed to block so much. (I know, sounds crazy!) I got the 67 designs single (wish I had gone with double now) and was able to position the phone within reach of fingertips and keep it below line of sight.

If you cant see over the steering wheel the E-Dock probably isnt your best bet.

I made my own seat blocks, 2in aluminum round stock, and drilled a 1/2in hole in the center. Cut them to the thickness you want with a cut-off saw or miter saw with alum blade. Good to go and cheap. I used mine to lift the pass seat up 7/8in to install an amp and lock box.

I’d say that if you are bothered already by limited visibility in the Jeep because you are shorter or just tuned that way, you may not want to add the dock.

I’m 5’ 10” (though short-legged & long torso) and I have no problem with it whatsoever. But I’m also not bothered by the lack of view out the rear window due to a 35” tire. Maybe it’s because I’m used to towing a 25’ 10,000 lb boat in a truck and relying on “senses” and peripheral vision (and mirrors)

Personally I love the e-dock, but my wife doesn’t because at 5’ 3” it’s right in her line of sight. Hell, even without it she can barely see over the hood.

I have to be honest, I do worry about the effect of those Ram x-grip mounts hitting someone in the face in the event of an accident...

I bought the kit for both front and back and I feel they kick butt. My 2 door doesn't have them and a world of difference. My wife is 5"3 and she can see the front now and just not the dash. Btw I emailed them and got a better deal than the site .
The only issue I'd say you can definitely tell when you look at it it's sitting on blocks not so much in the back seats for the front seats I'm going to live with that so much better so much more comfortable. They tend to make back part of the seat down in the front up just a little bit.
