Winch / X20 Gen 2 Smittybilt

So who's got one of these new Gen 2 versions and what do you think? I'm thinking this is what I'll buy but looking for feedback.

I have been thinking about picking up one of their winches as well. The price is right, warranty seems good, etc. A bunch of guys in one of my local Jeep FB groups have/had them and say they have a lot of issues. They will fail on the trail, electrical issues, are really only for light/occasional pulls. For what it's worth it's caused me to rethink my decision to purchase. I may still pull the trigger but am considering other options. They seem to like Warn (obvioulsy), Mile Marker, Engo.

No issues with Smittybuilt in our group. Have had issues with Superwinch and ENGO.

I have one, it's 2 months old.. X20 12,000 Comp Synthetic Line

No complaints, use it as often as I can. I'm always the pull vehicle by choice ( I want to see if this thing will break like everyone says). Wheel every weekend, most of the time it's between 10 and 30 jeeps (usually 2 jeep clubs). I pulled a massive, and I mean massive custom built silverado with 40's off a tree on a ridiculous rock climb. Straight pull from the top of the climb to him at the bottom. No problem. Several other Jeeps that had no chance of making the climb were also pulled, one after another. No problem. I've submerged it several times as well. Only gripe that I have is with the wireless remote. This is finicky on mine. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's very useful and it has a pretty respectable range.. when it works. Tomorrow I will be contacting Shittybilt and asking for a new solenoid.. after all it is under warranty and has not been abused. Remote works no problems when wired.

So I just called Smittybilt about the wireless issue. After I described the issue, they are sending me a new remote and control unit (solenoid). They are paired so they have to send you both. Phone call was a total of 5 minutes, done deal.

Sounds like good customer service right there and thanks for sharing your experience with the winch.

Ive had mine since April have used it quit a bit. No issues other than the wireless remote. Like previous poster I emailed them and they sent me a new remote and solenoid and it is good to go. For the money its a great unit.Waterproof and I love the wireless remote. Its super nice to be standing anywhere you want while running the winch.

I'm looking at winches under $600.

So far my two contenders were Superwinch tiger shark 9500 sr, and Quadratec 9500 stealth... and I just added Smittybilt X20 comp 10 gen2 to that list after seeing several smittybilt winch threads.

I'm not a fan of their armor due to their welds, but their winch line caught my attention. Warranty, waterproof, real world users and its priced right under $600

From you guys with personal experience, how long were you able to pull until it stopped? It will definitely help with my purchase decision.

Like my Quadratec stealth. It's been pulling rather well now for six months. It pulls until it stops at the fairlead

3 run them in our group. No problems after 2 years each and regular pulls.

Love mine. I've had an issue once with the remote and connected it via wire and then immediately disconnected it and the remote has worked fine ever since. Have had it completely under water and still working fine.

@rubiman1969 hows the warranty on the quadratec? I just had a chat with superwinch and they were giving me 2 years mechanical and 1 year electrical. I'm pretty sure once I get my winch from any brand, and it does fail, it will be faulty at the early stages of ownership instead of many years but having a more years is more of a peace of mind.

I'm sure smitty has great warranty as well and I have a local vendor (4wp) to do the claim for me if needed.

I have the x20 12k comp winch and have had almost no issues with it. Have used it to pull stuck vehicles probably a dozen times. The only problem at all was a snapped winch rope due to my own misuse, and was not in a recovery type situation. It was easy enough to fix and allowed me to swap out the hook for a factor 55 Pro-link.

I bought the winch on Black Friday 2014 and installed it in December 2014. Been on for over a year and working fine with no wireless or any other Smittybilt problems.

It works very well too. I never like using a hook during any sort of recovery anyway. On top of that, the pro link snugs up tight to the fairlead when not in use so it looks better too. One note however is that on 2 out of 4 of my d-rings that I carry in my Jeep, the opening to attach it to the pro-link is not wide enough, but I just use one of the two that are for that end.
