I've had a twill top for the last couple of years, and can vouch that it keeps the Jeep a little warmer in the cold climes of Chicago, than the hardtop or the sailcloth tops I've had. It's a thicker, 3 layer material than the sailcloth 30 oz, compared to 28 oz, and the windows are also thicker. The material is softer and more pliable, as well.

I'm glad to hear that Bestop is going to make the twill uppers, as the sailcloth uppers I have now aren't all that good looking.

My kids sit in the back sometimes when we use it as the family transport and my son is quite tall and so needs the head rest in.

Going to look for an earlier set as they are apparently a little shorter.

just installed the twill replace a top yesterday. It looks very nice and is much quieter than the original soft top. It was however, a PITA to get on. Very tight fit and had to pull and tug and then let it sit like that for a while to stretch out. It was 90 degrees here yesterday so it's not like it was cold out. Mechanically it was not tough to get on, but it was a real struggle. Looks great though and I would do it again.

Situation:

1. I have a hard top with freedom panels for the winter. Freedom panels are a PITA.
2. I live in Tennessee (it didn't even snow here last year)
3. I like the top off but my jeep is too new to be rained in. LOL
4. I run dusty/muddy roads a lot.

Decision:

A. I bought the Best top NX (the new one) in black diamond.

B. $799 fits my budget better than $1300.

C. It IS easier to clean (TWILL on my buddies jeep), took me half the time to remove twice the mud.

D. It won't be a year-round top. I'll put the hard top back on in the winter. Aside from the door surrounds, I think the all the other hardware can stay on.

E. One hand flips the sunrider open, 7 additional minutes and it's completely topless AND the top can stay with the jeep, so I no longer fear rain clouds.

Does anyone know if Bestop is manufacturing the Twill Uppers for the TJ? Cassie from Bestop had indicated availability by early 2018. I need a new soft top for my 1997 TJ and would really like the Twill but am concerned that the replacement uppers in Black Diamond would not look good against the twill top. Thanks!

I went with a third option. I had replaced the top on my TJ shortly after purchasing it in 2014 with a Bestop Replace-A-Top (RAT) in black diamond. It performed very well, but in the fifth season in the South (pollening season) I had difficulty getting the pollen out of the crevasses and velcro. When I removed the top prior to putting it in the restoration shop for painting last year, I discovered the OEM frame was in very bad condition.

When I got the Jeep back, I went with the Bestop Trektop NX in Spice sailcloth. Now if pollen gets in the crevasses, you can't see it because of the top's color.
