Golden Eagle Decals. Cheesy?

Hey guys. I have a '98 TJ Sport in Chile Pepper red. I want to put a vintage style bird on the hood. They are all over Ebay for as little as $100. They have them in silver or gold. I'm not really into the lettering. Just the bird.

Is it cheesy? It's not a Golden Eagle. Its not even the TJ version of the Golden Eagle. I think those were black with a small postal style bird. I didn't like them.
My gf does't think I should.
If you have pictures, Show 'em.

Also, if anybody's done it. How dificult are they to apply?

I dont know the history of nor does it really matter to me. End of the day, you need to decide for yourself what YOU like and what makes YOU happy. You obviously dig it, so I’d say go for it.

Im 100% sure the purists will say, “Its not really a golden eagle, so don badge it” and I’d say, who cares, if its for YOU. Maybe dont use the lettering and name it your own thing.

Screaming Chicken? Yehaw. Do you live in Kentucky?

Just kidding. I have done so much to mine to look different from the other 50,000 driving around I see no problem with it. I hated the angry eye grill until I joined this forum and when I started reading how many jeeper hated them I dropped everything I was doing and ordered it right away. I'm "opposite" guy.

If it makes you happy I'd say go for it. As far as applying it. There are a ton of vids on YouTube to show you how to apply it properly.

I'm one of those 'purists' I guess. It's not as bad as those that put "Rubicon" stickers on their non-Rubicon TJs/JKs, but I myself wouldn't do it if it were my Jeep.

I liked the idea of the chili pepper decal on the hood instead of the eagle. That would make your Chili Pepper edition even more unique, imo.

Lol... I dont know what's worse... the logic above, or the "I'll do it cuz everyone else is doing it" logic.

Golden Eagle Decals. Cheesy?

I like the ‘chili pepper’ idea posted above - lol Not even kidding. And for sure, I won’t brand my Jeep what it isn’t. Say, for example, a Rubicon. But if the guy wants an eagle on the Jeep and doesn’t brand it w the verbiage, ‘Golden Eagle’ or whatever they are, who cares.

Can't lie either.

I think that would look pretty slick on a hood. Maybe do just the chili pepper image without the wording on the hood since you would have the smaller decal above on each side above the Jeep stamp.

Heck, you could also do a "chili pepper" on the sides of the hood where the Rubicon decal usually goes. I'd keep the font the same.

That would definitely be something different.

Keep in mind that most chili pepper red tj's aren't chili pepper edition... only 500 build in 2000 w numbered plaques on the dash...

It's not cheasy if you like it. I think it pays homage to the old Golden Eagles.
But what do I know, I have old "Renegade" decals on the hood of my 05 because as a kid I loved the Renegade CJ's

I have put a much bigger bird on the hood of a '79 Trans Am by myself. It's not that difficult with the correct gel and squeegy.

Thanks for all the responses. I come home, and there's a ton of posts.

I would definitely not badge it. Like someone above stated about Rubicon decals on a Sport. Definitely a bit tacky. Especially since the Rubi has additional performance features. I don't know what additions the 70's Eagles had, but they were definitely lifted.

The a/m decals are available in silver or gold. Jeep never made a Silver Eagle, so no misrepresentation there. Plus my interior is gray. Gold would compliment a saddle interior. I think I'll do silver, and maybe just retro Wrangler decals underneath.

I'm definitely not feeling the Chili Pepper decals.

The Golden Eagle option package was a $200 premium above the Renegade package. It originally included an eagle decal on the hood, larger tires, Levi’s Soft Top, rear-mounted spare, wheel lip extensions, spare tire lock, Convenience group, Décor group, tachometer carpeting and clock.

You can get a small bottle of decal application gel from Amazon. It’s almost necessary with a decal of that size. It’ll give you time to slide it this way or that way before it’s stuck forever. Squeegee our the gel and park in the sun.
If you end up with a few small bubbles the sun will fix it.
Make sure the hood is clean clean clean. I’m not 100% sure what product to use maybe someone here will have a suggestion. You’ll want to strip the wax off.
When I put the Phoenix on my ‘79 Trans Am I had a fresh painted unwaxed hood.

Glass cleaner strips all wax off and Two drops of dish liquid and water work every bit AS GOOD AND YOU CAN SLIDE THE DECAL AROUND WITHOUT IT STICKING. I've DONE A BUNCH.

Well, I guess start with Sesame St, then work your way up to things like Wikipedia and YouTube. Go slow, then eventually join a forum.

When you begin your posts, "LOL,I don't know" it is a sign that you may be in over your head.
