Hard top. Quick question

Going to buy a used hard top tomorrow. The guy has it on a '99 TJ I believe he said. It's the older top with the side vents. This should fit just fine on my 2004? (Sorry if it's an obvious question. Better to be safe than sorry).

Seems to be in good condition. He had it painted a couple yrs ago. If there's anything else I should look for before buying, let me know.

Thanks.

Yep... you'll have vents in both top and tailgate... non issue

Also if your jeep is wired for a hard top you'll need to buy or build an adapter

I have an 04. When I bought it 3 years ago, it came with a 2000 top on it. Fits perfect. My tj came from the factory with a soft top. There is no wiring harness for the hard top. Dome, wiper and defrost arent hooked up. Harness is not hard to rig up.
I painted mine with rattle can rustoleum bed liner, it looks great.

A buddy of mine has an older vented hardtop on his 2004 Rubi. Fits just fine. The only thing it doesn't have that mine does is 2 oblong alignment tabs that drop into the holes in the tub rail. This is only an aid for install I'm guessing. He has never messed with getting the rear wiper/defrost working. He's not OCD, it would have to work for me!

That won't plug into the older hardtop but you can adapt it...

Don't splice...
You can buy a plug and play adapter or you can get the plugs from dodge cars in the junkyard and make your own

Too late. Spliced.

After a lot of trial and error, those 4 pink ones in the back need to be tightly together for the wiper to work. It works and then decides to stop.

Did I ruin the wiring/gonna have problems with it long term?

I would repair all of the cut wires and use the adapter but it's your jeep
Trial and error on electric and electronic circuits is not a good idea....

Really wish I would have seen this before splicing.
At this point I don't know what to do.

Rewire it into the appropriate plugs. Use the adapter. Cross your fingers.

My rear wiper and defroster has never been wired up (original owner added the hardtop and there are no wires to be found, so he must have cut them or something) and it has never caused any issues for me. Although I live in Florida with no snow and super lax vehicle laws.

Personally I never saw a need for a hard top or full doors. No room to store them to enjoy the openness of what a wrangler was designed for.

Well it's probably a good thing that the op bought the hardtop instead of you....

-Done. Original wires re-attached to original harness. (2 purple ones are identical so I'll wait before finishing those).
-Part ordered off ebay.
-Now I wait and keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks guys. Will keep you posted.

Here’s a wiring diagram that may be useful.

Great contribution to this thread, I bet OP dropped his wiring project and sold his top/doors because of you.

Personally, I don't have a garage or roof to store my jeep under, so when it rains, I like to be able to have a roof/doors on it to keep it from getting super soggy. However, I do have space to store them when they're off.

Just a quick update.

Got the adapter off Ebay. Rear wiper is now working.

I still don't know what the 2 pinkish colored wires do. I haven't 'repaired' those yet.

Thanks again everyone for the help!

Those are connected by the hardtop side of the plug to allow the washer pump to run

I guess what I meant to ask was since there are 2 pink wires that are identical, does it matter which one I attach them to

Hard top. Quick question

The washer power goes from switch to hard top then back from hardtop to washer pump under hood

That way if hardtop is removed the pump can’t be turned on and water your rear tub
