Hauling a TJ Hardtop

Putting this out there because I was asked.
Bought a hardtop 3 hrs away and didn't want to drive the Jeep because of the possibility of bad weather.
Took some scrap 2 x 4s and made 2 bases and a cross member flush with the height of my wheel wells. Cut some OSB to fit across, 65", and screwed it to the 2-by cross member. Loaded the top, backwards, padded it with pipe insulation tube on the bottom, and with 2" screws and fender washers screwed it to the USB, through the top mounting holes. Used some floor padding I had, and strapped it down. 200 miles - 70 - 75 MPH do problems and much easier than towing a trailer in heavy traffic.

Would work but takes about five minutes after you arrive with softtop in place to remove it and mount the hard top with a couple bolts on each side and you are done

Bought my hardtop and installed it with my soft top still in place (folded down) No problem.

Good information - I wasn't aware there was no interference.
Still didn't want to do 6+ hrs of Hwy driving, in poor weather, in the Jeep. I love it on back roads and off but not the highway.

Seems like a great idea for hauling the hardtop.
Absolutely love my TJ but avoid the highway until the hardtop goes back on in the fall.
