Her top's off and she's shaking pretty good

Took my hardtop off for the first time quite easily. Took her for a drive without the soft top on yet and the doors would vibrate when being closed as well as hitting bumps in the road. Put the Bestop soft top on that the PO used and same thing. Is this normal or does something need adjusted.
Thanks

Do you have the door surrounds on?

absolutely, people have cracked door hinges not running their door surrounds with full doors. They support and stop it from bouncing up and down

As someone who learned this recently, yes you need door surrounds with full doors if you take your hardtop off. Mine was the Rattle Machine from Hell until I got mine.

If my hard top is off, my full metal doors come off, too. Running topless, I use either my half-doors or no doors at all.

I have door surrounds, so I have that option, but I hardly ever use them.

The only time I use the DS is if there's a chance of rain, & I'm running my half-doors. I'll throw the (POS) uppers in the back seat, just in case I need them.

When running the full steel doors, it's important that the door surrounds be installed. When they're not there, the upper door frame flexes too much when the door is shut which starts cracking the welds at the bottom of the window frames. The door surrounds brace the upper doors so they don't move and flex.

Thanks for the replies all.

Could someone who has full doors and a soft top on post a pic of what the surrounds look like? Can't seem to find these things anywhere.

are these soft upper door surrounds interchangable between all softops??? - JeepForum.com

I have something similar to this on there now. Is this the door surround? It attaches horizontally into a bracket on the windshield and vertically into the tub just behind the door catch.

Watch out without door surrounds - if you slam hard enough or way too often it will crack your weld at the door.

Some door surrounds for sale here...

I don't have door surrounds with my Bestop Supertop (classic)... it only has the vertical rods for securing the top. So with the top down am I supposed to install another set of surrounds for my full steel doors?

The top of door surround bolts to the rollbar piece that is above the door. There's a pin at the bottom of it that is inserted into a small hole in the tub rail just behind the door opening.

I understand that Jerry - thanks. My point was that the original Bestop Supertop classic model I have does not use or have door surrounds, just bow rods the top is wrapped around above the doors. So if I go driving with the top down there is no surround to support the upper door frame on a solid door..... So should I try to buy a set of surrounds to bolt in place to use only when the tops down (or maybe just get a Supertop NX = $$).

Thanks

Well if you get door surrounds it might no necessarily work with your top. I believe the supertop should have its own door surround stuff. Needless to say I closed my doors one time without door surrounds and I saw how bad the door flexed and its reported that that it cracks so I wouldn't risk it
