Exclamation JEEP LJ build need help!!

My first car was just totaled and with the insurance money my dad and I bought a 2006 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON. This jeep was in a crash and we need to fix up the front in order to get it to pass inspection. We need a hood, bumper, grill, air filter, and a soft top. I am looking on recommendations on these parts as we are trying to do this on a budget. I'm looking for help on wether I should go OEM, on these parts or if there are any good budget aftermarket alternatives, Please leave thoughts and suggestions in the replies, Thanks.

Hit up Davey's Jeeps. It's a Jeep Salvage yard. They probably have everything you're looking for

Auto or manual transmission? If an auto I wouldn’t put effort into the build given the well known issues with PCM failures. If it’s a manual then Craigslist and Davey’s Are your best options for replacement parts.

to be fair, the 06 pcm problem is just a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear until the trans is warmed up.

while not ideal, its not a huge problem. pretty much every year other than maybe 04 has some issue to deal with

First off where are you located? I may have some of those parts used. Is this a Salvage Title jeep or a clean green title but needs inspection as part of the Plating process. The reason I ask is some Salvage title processes require the use of factory parts or factory style parts to complete the repair. The fenders are a perfect example. I am going to Hi-Lines....but to get through inspection I needed a inexpensive used factory set. Same with a soft top....etc.

If the jeep has PCM issues - no one really knows for sure if the current fixes work long term, or exactly what was done to fix the issue if the/a fix is made. Further, if the SKIM xtem is on the jeep additional problems may arise both with/if the PCM issue is present and PCM subsequently replaced, and in accepting the proper keys for the jeep....

we are still just talking about a hard shift from 1st to 2nd on the auto trans for the first 5 min of vehicle use, right?

some people are making this sound like the jeep becomes inoperable

Hard shift isn’t a big deal. CEL is illuminated and the codes can never be cleared. Problem is for those of us that are subject to smog testing. We are unable to pass smog with the CEL illuminated.

That TSB does not help with the CEL codes specifically related to the faulty PCM. I’ve had my PCM rebuilt which did nothing. Receiving my new PCM this week from FS1. If it doesn’t work the rig will be sold for scrap. Sucks to trash a perfectly fine running vehicle because the CEL won’t stay off.

My 05 LJ had the "heater not ready" fault (No CEL on this) and that would fail it on emissions (can't have ANY fault showing), Fix was easy and that fault is gone (was a TSB that detailed the rewiring required).

Still have not heard of a SKIM equipped PCM failing vehicle being fixed.

Not ready to test is different than cel

For the hard shifts you can rig up a switch (or relay ) to change pcm 12 volt input to temp ground making reset easy or even automatic but then would need to disable and live with hard shifts for a week or 2 around emissions check time to get monitors to read ready to test

That same new design pcm has other heat failure issues also associated with emissions failures and running issues
Very very common in 04-05 PT cruiser with turbo as there PCM sees excessive heat
Only solution for me was FS1 on wife’s turbo PT and it took them a couple tries but has been working for six months with no issues or CEL including on 100 degree days

Also I never worked with salvage title but have yet to see a requirement for any top oem or otherwise as part of vehicle registration must be a state specific quirk
