My key will not come out of the ignition no matter how much I push the button or wiggle the darn thing! Any ideas? It is a 2000 jeep wrangler sport. (5spd, 4.0)

Thanks,

Bryan

I would say if it is a regular switch and they didn't put any kind of pass-lock on them in the newer models then just go to the nearest auto parts store and buy a key and tumbler switch set for around $22 and replace the switch. It comes with two keys and if it is like the other models can be changed in about 20-30 mins. Now here is the bad part if you don't do it now and hold off until you can no longer turn your switch to the ON position it will take you about 2 hours to change because the switch has to be in the on position before you can push the locking pin in to remove the old switch. So do it now before you have to drill out the tumblers and turn it to ON with a screw driver.;)

Mine did this a while back and the key wouldn't turn either.
I had to get a new tumbler. I think it was a result of simply hopping in the Jeep and just shoving the key in quickly and turning it to crank it at almost the same time.
Now I take my time when inserting the key.

I am having a similar issue - it appears as if the lock release button is stuck in. This would usually pop out a bit when key is inserted. I've read posts on changing the tumbler unit but I don't think that is my issue as the button to release the key seems to be a separate part.

Thank you for the suggestion, it is not a locked steering wheel. Last night I removed the plastic that surrounds the steering column and was able to remove the key tumbler, the lock release button is not part of this and that seems to be the issue, I just don't know how to replace and or repair that part. I will try to include a photo of the lock release button that I referring too.
