Need PCM where to buy?

Well it has finally happened to my beloved '05 Rubicon TJ.
122000 miles and now I need a PCM.
Does anyone have a place to purchase one of quality ?
That you have had success with?
Thanks.

dealer
due to warranty
pay them to fix your issue only
let them throw parts at it till they replace PCM that may or may not last
with the understanding you will only pay to fix the issues you requested

this all may be good in theory and hard implement but
when it comes to PCM's remanufactures seem to be hit and miss, especially for an auto trans, manual not so much

You can't buy a NEW PCM, only remanufactured and you might as well get it from the stealership because they will be there tomorrow to honor the warranty. What good is a lifetime warranty if the company goes out of business or changes their name every year to avoid issues.

Exactly!!! Go to a dealership to get it done, it is worth the extra price as you are getting a remanufactured PCM that may or may not work, but you get a dealership guarantee vs an online shady retailer's guarantee.

With guarantees, this is best said by Tommy Boy:

How do you know the guaranteed fairy isn't some crazy glue sniffer... He sneaks into your house once and that's all it takes. Next thing you know, there is money missing off your dresser and your daughter is knocked up! I've seen it a hundred times.

If you want me to take a dump in a box, and mark it guaranteed I will. I've got spare time.

So you are all saying it's a fools error to try and do it myself?
That's pretty sad.

Not at all. Swapping out the PCM takes 5min. but you still have to get it flashed for your VIN at the dealership. Do what you will but I bit the bullet after way too much headache.

To bluntly answer, yes, I think it is. Unless you are a student or professor at MIT or Harvey Mudd leave it up to the dealership. You are asking for trouble if you choose to buy one online and try to install yourself, just because the PCM you buy may be toasted and good luck dealing with that process.

Donít know why you have to flash vin as will run fine with mismatch of course with 05-06 who knows

Know my 98 sport 5spd drove fine for a day with a 97 XJ 4.0 auto pcm swamped in as an experiment

Did have a cel for no TCM

I bought my PCM from the dealership and saved myself $125 by installing it myself (5min job) but it wouldn't turn the engine over until it was flashed for my VIN. That's where they get you. So I limped it to the dealership with my old PCM and changed it out in the parking lot and they had to push it into the stall to flash it.

I think since the PCM you used already had a program on it is why it may have worked on yours.

Pcm has zero effect on starter spinning engine ie turning engine over however with skim it can prevent engine running

SKIM? Is that the computer chip in the key? Mine doesn't have that. I just know that the power would come on but nothing would happen when I turned the key to start it.

2005-06 have a TCM built into the PCM instead of separate module like the prior years.

I think that is the reason why a dealership needs to flash the 2005-06 PCMs, where the older TJs do not need to be flashed.

I looked at this place but the operator told that I send my computer to them and then they rebuild it.
Ok sounds fine, except for the down time.
It would be better if they sold me a computer and I sent my old one back as a core.
That way I wouldn't have the down time waiting for them to get me back on the road.

Sorry didn't know that they only had a repair service for your year. There is another place I was going to use, called Flag Ship 1, https://www.fs1inc.com/ They sell your year PCM, but it's about $800 i think...

Well I put my TJ in the shop.
They had it for two days.
They tested every thing the PCM say was wrong, but nothing was wrong.
So I got it back from them.
I'm gonna drive it until it won't go anymore, then take it in.
I'm through being paranoid that something is wrong.

Well here's something to think about. Got the TJ out of the shop with no new parts. Shop said they didn't want to mess with the PCM.
So I decided to drive it till something real happened. Basicly said above.

So,,, this last weekend went out to the local mountains with the Combat Crawlers local group.
Went up Gold Mountain. Well I bounced off rock for about 3-4 hrs. No problems at all.
In fact , my TJ,,,'Alley Oop ' worked perfectly!

With the trail over for me I hit the pavement heading for home.
Enjoying the smooth pavement, I noticed I had no lights flashing on the dash.
Not a single blip. The TJ was running like a top!

So maybe the cure for false PCM readings is to just take your jeep out for some bumpy rock crawling.
