New stereo head unit, how to wire the stock subwoofer?

Hi all,

I put a sweet Alpine i207 in my 2006 LJ using a wiring hardness that had speaker connections for the the front and read speakers. From what I can tell those run into the stock subwoofer and then onward to the speakers right? Im guessing there is a power lead or something to turn the sub on or off that Im missing. Any idea how to wire that up?

Would appreciate any help on this.
thanks!

Sub gets signal from rear speaker leads...

I thought it was powered up w ignition but I'm not certain....

Click on the threads in my signature.... you might wanna consider adding a small amp like I did while you're at it.

I would have to go back and check sons install but there was a blue wire from the head unit that needed to be connected in addition to the speaker leads. Re-check the install guide for your unit it should give you a lead on what needs to be checked.

Thx for the replies,
I have several 12v outputs from the head unit that come on only when the stereo is on which is what im assuming I need to connect. Im just not sure what wire on the jeep I need to connect it to that turns on the subwoofer.

I did this to mine last year and I think you connect the remote antenna wire from the head unit to the sub power wire. It is blue I think.

edit: reading comprehension problem, sorry. I know the amp is in the center console with the sub but not sure which wire you connect to.

If I am reading the wiring diagram right there is only one wire besides the ground and speaker wires and it is showing bk/rd so I guess the black/red wire would do it.

Do not tie your new head unit remote power wire to that bk/rd wire. You will let the magic smoke out of your new head unit That wire runs from the fuse box and is switched ignition power. Factory amp doesn’t have a remote turn on. Just make sure you have +12v on that wire with ign on.

I put a kicker sub in place of the stock, cut out the factory amp and put an amp under my passenger seat. The kicker is a dual cone like stock. much improved. I tried to keep the factory amp with the new speaker, but it couldn't drive it....

You have front speakers on each side of the dash too -- right?

Yeah I sorta made some purchases since I wrote the initial post. I wont be at the Jeeps location for a couple days sp I started reading more and wondered why if Im going to pull the console apart to find out why the stock sub isnt going on I might as well just upgrade the thing. I got the Kicker coming with a single channel amp as well. Upgrade for up front too, I'll post some pics when its done.

Ill try to answer my original question definitively when I get in there. Stay tuned.
