"straight" as in the roof being dented in from the crane/ladder on it then yes!
All but the windows that go up and down! They are cracked pretty bad.

It actually doesn't have anything in it! I have a few swaps in mind already! I have a 4.0 laying here and I know where I can get a 4bt for pretty cheap! Another thought is just a 5.3... regardless of swap its gonna be some work!

That seem like the perfect candidate for a 4bt

Very cool! I'd like to get a similar project, but funds are limited.
As old as it is, I would probably drop an older engine, or at least an older type engine in it. A 350 Chevy crate, for instance. At the very least one with no computer.

That was my first thought. There is also a new Cummins aftermarket engine program as well. I think it’s about 5 or $6k, but the package could be worth $40-50k completed.

I had a ride in this one. It has the 6. My cousins own it but no plans to restore it at this point. They are a cool vehicle.

3 hours later in 27 degrees plus wind and she was finally on the trailer ready to go home! We started by pick axing the frozen ground around the tires. It was frozen a good 8 inches into the ground.
Once dug out we tried pulling with our tractor we brought but nothing.
After it finally came loose we now had enough room to put a floor jack under the axle tubes Finally!
After finally getting it moving we soon realized that the front driver wheel is not spinning. 3 out of 4 wheels moved thats pretty good for been sitting for 45+ years.

Looks like a fun project, and yep, I can see where that pole has left it's mark. Still, with the glass being all there, that's a major plus. I can tell you that it probably has crazy low gearing in those axles.

Diesel would be a good choice, but a LS series wouldn't be bad either, and you can find those, complete with transmission, harness, PCM and transfer case for decent money.

I believe I read somewhere on the internet that the gearing in these were 5.38...?

Or lower. Had to be that low, due to the low power output of the original engine.

It might just be easiest and cheapest to buy a 12v Cummins truck and use it's driveline. You could probably use it's gages, seat, pedals, steering column, and shifters

He'll probably have to stick with the original steering column, as that one is basically straight up and down. He might be able to adapt something. I'm not sure about the shifters, since that's a cab-forward design. He'll be sitting on the front wheels, so the transmission will be behind him.

Nice. The sheet metal looks fairly straight and solid, and the glass is all there. Duallies are cool for sure.

original seats are there just not in place. Was thinking about getting them redone or possibly trying to rig up some rzr/utv seats. Steering column is still in good shape... have heard of some people getting a steering box from a newer cob over and modifiying it so it will work. Shifters will be by no means easy at all...

Its not to bad at all!! The windows that go up and down is the only missing glass. I believe that these windows were just a flat rectangle... Hoping I can go to a local glass place and have them cut to fit for super cheap.

My thoughts were since you're going to have to build custom linkages anyway it would probably be best to build them around a transmission and transfercase that has massive aftermarket support even if it's not kosher.

In the end though I guess I'm picturing a boxed framed, doubled, FC with a massaged 12v on 47" mtb's with a crawl rate of a 90 yo grandma with a stability cane. I'm building your project for you since I'd like to remain married

In any case there is no such thing as an uncool FC

Quick update being that the boom and ladder is off and so is the crappy cage
As for power plant The diesel I was originally going to use was already given away so no 4bt ): have been looking at salvage auctions for a wrecked truck with a 5.3
