Polk DB652's in 2003 Speaker Pods

How are you guys getting these to fit? I cut the tabs off with my Dremel and they still dont want to squeeze into the pods. Short of cutting the whole lip off all the way around the speakers I dont see how they can fit. Any help would be appreciated.

I cut the whole outside lip off mine...

I sealed up the whole back of the speaker with tape to keep shavings out... then I used a 40 grit flap disc in my angle grinder to grind it down.... last, I covered the tape w more tape to trap the shavings before pulling it all off....

I did all this so I could use the stock grills.... most folks just mount em on top by drilling new screw holes outside the existing depressions...

i didnt need to drill new holes or trim anything. the holes line up but the speaker sits on the face of the pod instead of being recessed in the pod. only issue is that you cant use the OEM covers
