Simple things can get you KILLED

Floor Mats
I went for a test drive in a 2006 TJ that I eventually bought. When I pulled out everything was good, but I took it easy and listened, eventually working into harder steering, acceleration (that's funny huh), and braking.
All was going well until I attempted a panic stop (luckily I've done this enough and was on a back road and in the center, just in case it pulled. Well, it didn't pull, but my foot got stuck under the brake pedal.
The form fitted, heavy, floor mats were on the wrong sides, so when it slid slightly the indention made for the outside jammed my foot so I couldn't readily remove it.
Easy fix - put on the correct side and used my heat gun to remove the malformation caused by being on the wrong side for some time. (Did both sides)
Just one of those OH Sh!t moments.

If these floormats are anything like my molded husky ones, i have no idea how you could get the 2 sides switched and not notice?

I agree. They are contoured for the floor easy enough. They will go on the wrong side (obviously), but it distorts the side.

Happens with clutch in my ranger all the time with factory ranger specific floor-mats.
they have a tendency to slide up just far enough that when you push the clutch down it clips past the edge of the floor mat then wont come back up.

Had it do it once with gas peddle also.

Never had my TJ do this but if you had some aftermarket mat in there i could see it happening.

I instinctively pull my floor mat back towards me every time i get in a vehicle now.

In my wife's mini van, she has some weather tech mats. On the drivers side, the mat will slip up under the gas pedal. So you can't depress the pedal all of the way. I don't like that at all.

I have cheap heavy rubber floor mats from Costco. Never an issue and they sit tight. They don't have the cool "look at me, I cost a fortune" factor but they catch sand and water. What more do you need.

Well mine came with it. Can't say they look cool, but they will catch all the dirt, sand, mud, or whatever is spilled. They work great on the correct sides.
As far as the "cool look at me" wrong person here. I'm kind of the ANTI.
I'm all about function.
J33P, sgpd1sam and trickydoc like this.
