I know there has been a few post about what to have in your vehicle when going on trips or off roading. But, does anyone have some pics or ideas of what they have for storage in the rear? I am looking to do something in the back since I have my rear seat out. I would like to make or buy something that is removable so that I can put my seat back in if needed.

I have one of the aforementioned Smittybuilt Vaults in my TJ. I got lucky and found a used one for $100 off of CL.

I also used a couple 2x3's on edge and painted black to lift my vault up to tonneu cover height. I now have a cover I can stand on, with 3 inches of space under the vault for slip in storage.

I went back and forth about what to do for secure storage in the back. I took the seat out when I first got the Jeep and never looked back. I wanted versatility so a permanent mounted item was out. I found this security job box in the scratch and dent isle at Lowes for $100. I chain it to the seat bracket. It isn't going anywhere. I can carry just about anything and have never had to remove it. I just pile my camping gear around and on top of it.

i been lookin for a 1/2 sheet of 7ga. or 1/4" aluminum. i'd like to cap the whole rear from seats to gate, rim to rim. notch it around the rear roll bars so it'll tilt up with couple cheap struts. could rest on the tub side rims and not interfere with MY softop. material is stout enough to support a lock or latches.

I really like what you built here. I sketched out quite a few different home-made designs and eventually just ran out of free time and bought a Tuffy security drawer. I raised mine on aluminum channel to allow room beneath for my soft door uppers. I mounted L-Track on the top to use for tie-down and the cargo bins shown can be opened without having to unhook anything. I use these for recovery equipment and anything else I need ready access to.

(This post is a test to see if imgur photos are now visible in this forum.)

I've got the Tuffy security enclosure in the back of my TJ:

The lid is load-bearing and can support 200 pounds, so I mounted my factory spare tire carrier directly to it:

For added weather resistance, I cut a hole in a duster and install it when the top is off:

This has worked very well for me. My 35" spare clears the seat backs as well as the rear soft window when it is installed during winter. Nice.
