Turn signal/hazard problems

Hello all. After years of wanting a Jeep I finally have one! Bought a 2004 Wrangler x and the turn signals were flashing very fast. I read through so many posts and you tube videos before joining and posting this. All lights worked, no LED installed like some said to check, replaced a new relay switch and that fixed the problem but the hazards stopped working and when pushed down a buzzing sound only occurs. Got another one and then nothing worked. Checked the fuses all good. Switched back to original and the hazards work and lights flash fast again so I’m stumped. I haven’t read this exact problem in here but I’m sure someone has dealt with it. Any help would be appreciated!

I had an issue on mine where the directional on one side flashed very fast. It ended up being a dirty bulb socket on the front marker on that side. I'd say check for dirty or corroded bulb sockets. Common for one lamp to get its ground from another so all need to be good

Did you figure out what was causing the hazard flasher buzzing problem?

I've got an '03 TJ that when I turn the hazards on I get that same buzzing from the relay. No LED's installed, left/right flashers work without issue.

I pulled a trailer a week or so ago - TJ has OEM trailer harness. Light's didn't work on trailer either, but don't know if it was due to the busted trailer lights or something wrong with the TJ's harness (I can't see the TJ's harness being an issue since the left/right flashers work OK, as do the brake lights - but thought I would mention just in case).

Been raining here, plus had some facial surgery that has kept me from digging into this issue further - just though I would see if you figured out the problem.

Thanks Dorsk 84! Sorry for my delay in reply.

What "corners" are you talking about? Corners of the light housings or corners of the tub?

Could you give a better description on where to look in "the corners"? As in are there ground bonding connections that are reached from inside the tub corners or from underneath the tub corners?

Thanks in advance for your insight!

The lights on the TJ are individually grounded at each corner of the vehicle. They don't share one ground wire for the whole system. So left, right, front and back are separate.

Mine are a green wire that is bolted to the body close to the directional light wiring harness. I think the rear lights are grounded in the light fixture itself. But just make sure that the wire itself, has not failed inside the sheathing. Outside looks absolutely perfect, but once my friend cut the wire terminal off the wire was completely rusted out.

Thanks Dorsk 84! I understand exactly what your talking about, although I do question one aspect of this solution -

To the best of my knowledge, all of my lights work like they are supposed to for left/right operation. It’s only when the hazard button is pushed that the hazard relay buzzes. Due to the open/close frequency of the relay, all the lights light dimly.

But I will test for bad grounds by accessing the light bulb and jumper the ground to chassis - this bypasses the factory ground. If the hazard relay starts working correctly, I’ve found the bad ground.

Will update the thread when I have results.

Well little delayed - but to update -

I jumpered all the grounds from my taillights to chassis ground - the result was no change, the hazard relay still buzzed.

Jumpering to ground may not have been the correct means of testing in light of the way cars are wired in today’s world. I need to dig into this deeper - which means deep study of the wiring diagram. 🧐

To be continued . . .

What model relay did you use for the replacement?
I learned that the TJ's have a funky wiring setup, and generally require a "TJ specific" flasher relay. I "tested" through three different parts store relays (with the exact same 'hazard buzzing' issue you describe) before finally buying the Gold Coast relay made for the TJ.
