When you get slapped in the face by a branch backing into the driveway.

Also when you yell "HOW IN THE **** DID YOU NOT SEE ME" to the person who pulls out right in front of you with your big, lifted Jeep.

Do you guys consider the LJ part of the TJ family? Or are we the loaner outcasts doomed to sit at the kids table for ever?

LJ is definitely a TJ in most peoples eyes, I think most are a bit envious of the extra room. Personally I prefer the shorter wheelbase both for BOA and looks. But, they are still the same animal in my opinion.

...when you realize that the only reason you got 15mpg is because you drove from 7000ft elevation to 1500.

Or when the fat kid sits on your spare and from then on you have to use brute force to swing the tailgate out cause the hinges are messed up.

Heres another, when you think you've done something to it and your son says "dad these things were dropped out of airplanes during the war, its fine" haha.

Every change is scorned by the traditionalists. I am sure that the flat fender group decried the change when the CJ-5 came out. And it was blasphemy when they lengthened the frame, widened the door opening and took out the dog leg on the rear bottom corner of the opening on the CJ-7.

Then they had to nerve to put square headlights on the YJ, when lowering the Jeep and widening the stance. Plus they dropped the "CJ" that had been in place for 40 years. It did not help that they moved production to Ontario. In fact the Wikipedia entry for Jeep CJ says "The Wrangler is not a direct descendant of the World War II Willys MB or Willys civilian Jeeps (Jeep CJ) of the mid-1940s through 1980s, later produced by Kaiser-Jeep and by American Motors (AMC), despite this common misconception." This was a quote from Joseph Cappy, AMC VP of Production- 29 November 1985. Of course there were political reasons to say this since the CJ line had such a bad roll over rep due to the CJ-5. But, except for the fuel filler on the left and the dash, the body tub was pretty much the same. In fact with just a little work, you can put a CJ-5/7 front clip on a YJ.

Things settled down with the TJ, which now had "real" headlights again. Then the LJ came along. It looks a little different, but other than the length it's pretty much the same. Then the JK came out and the "purists" started ranting again, too wide, plastic fenders and - gasp - four doors!

The LJ is every bit a Jeep in my mind. It might have been better if it had been tagged as an TJU (like the JKU) rather than LJ. But then, I also drive a JKU and love it for it room and comfort. When I take the TJ on a Scout weekend, I would love to be able to stretch it into an LJ, maybe one day.

When your girlfriend breaks up with you but you're more upset about your Jeep still being in the shop.

And when you're at an intersection and you start smelling something, you get worried and then realize you're not driving your Jeep.

Whenever I'm driving and hear brakes squealing or smell someone's exhaust and I start worrying if it's my Jeep.

-when you trade your 97 with over 200k in for a 00 with 58k in excellent condition but still driving it like your old one wondering where all these new scratches came from.

-when you cuss the v-dot trucks for plowing snow off the roads.

-when you press the 4wd lever down so that "noise" will stop.

-when you can take the key out of the ignition while it's running to unlock your glovebox going down the road (only newer ignition my 97 didn't do it).

-when there's no point in filling it up with gas (unless trail related) because you get better gas mileage in the last half tank.

-when YOU have to be the one to lift the seat forward to let passengers in the back seat because no one else knows about the nice lever under the seat. (Cable for pull strap broken)

-when even if your ac does work good you still don't use it

-your relaxed and happy but your friends are grabbing every "ohh s*** handle" available while riding with no doors.

-when you go wheelin' by yourself and have gotten confident and then try a hole you shouldn't have and get stuck. Then you walk around cussing your open differentials because u have no cell reception and no recovery equipment.

I'll think of somemore

...When you just sold your beloved XJ after 6 years of building and wheeling but you're ok with it because you have a locked and loaded Rubicon in the garage.
