1991 Wrangler Sway. Normal?

Not a current jeep owner but looking to buy.I drove a 1991 Wrangler with no lift installed and it seemed difficult to keep on the road. It wondered from on side to the other. I really like the jeep but would be concerened with my wife driving it. All tie rod ends, ball joints, seemed in good shape and the current owner just had a new sway stablizer installed. Is this just the nature of the beast and is there an easy fix? Thanks.

to me it sounds like the death wobble, there are many causes for it. for me personally it was the tires. at highway speeds it felt as if the jeep was rocking side to side i put a set of new tires on and the problem disappeared.

look at the death wobble sticky to see other peoples causes, maybe it will help you out.

It shouldn't be difficult to keep on the road especially with no lift. After making sure the tires are balanced and such might need to make sure the alignment is adjusted properly. Sway/stabilizers don't usually need to be replaced unless something happened to it.

If the jeep wanders, I would wonder if its been hit and the chassis is bent or other unseen damage. A stock Jeep should not wander, even a lifted one down properly stays on the road.
