1991 YJ - Should I buy it??

Hi all,

Got a deposit on this beauty. Just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts or tips as to what to check. I'm on my way to the dealership now.

$7k seems a bit steep for the year but it seems to be in pristine condition. Heading to MA from NY to check it out right now.

Any thoughts?

7k seems high for 150k miles to me. 5-5500 seems more fair from a dealer.

Man, that thing is just dripping Armor-All. Seems like an awful lot for a 25 year-old 4-banger. Rear window defogger in a soft top? I'd like to see that... Off-road tires? Maybe they mean "parking lot." It's off the road...
I'd start with a compression test and engine codes.

In the end, all it has to do is give you $7k of happy. Your 7k might be different from mine.

There's no way the motor will be that clean after 150,000 miles so obviously it's been prepped. It's quite possible that in doing so the dealership pressure washed away any evidence of oil leaks. Be extremely careful when purchasing used vehicles that are overly prepped like this. For 7k I would have it checked by an independent mechanic before handing over a check.
That being said, from the photos it appears to be in excellent condition and may vary well have been an RV tow vehicle for most of it's life. If that was the case, then any YJ in pristine condition is an excellent value at that price. You certainly won't find many like it nowadays.

I agree. Way too much cash.

For $7k you can buy 2 decent ones.

Tell him you'll give him $4850 (more than a fair price) for it the way he has it LISTED, then make sure you call him out on all the options he has listed that don't exist. Tell him to knock $100 off the $4850 for each non-existant option. That is at least $900, without looking real close, that I can see.

$3950 is a more fair price for the way it actually is, rather than the way it's listed. And have wash off all the sticky shiny stuff.

Any kind of warranty doesn't amount to crap if you have to go from ANYWHERE in NY to Needham, MA to have it honored. Long drive or tow!

Be prepared to walk. Don't be a sucker with your hard earned cash for a pretty face. Plenty of more fish in the sea.

My $0.02

Technically that's false advertisement. Not sure if the laws are different in MA, but I'd call him out on false advertisement. 150 isn't that much a jeep of that year. If there's nothing fixed in it ever, and doesn't come with any accessories, I'd give 5500. All the other posts on here also give great advice. Goodluck

Might be worth 6k, if the frame is as shiny as the body.
