1st Jeep Help

I am looking to buy my first Jeep. I have found a 1993 Wrangler 4 cylinder with approximately 135K on it. The owner has told me that it runs on low oil pressure but uses no oil and only makes a little bit of top end noise. He says the top end noise only happens every once and a while not all the time. Could someone please give me some advise on this. He has also said that if he keeps the Jeep he is going to install a high output oil pump to correct the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Have you driven the Jeep yet? What does the pressure read? How good of a deal are we talking for the jeep? My big concern would be, how long has it been running on low oil pressure, and what damage may have already been done by this. If it was fantastic deal I might have it looked at by a shop. But other wise I would keep looking.

I am not sure how long it has been running on low oil pressure. I have not drove it yet. The gauge reads 0 or barely above 0. It has been offered to me for $2500.

Don't depend on the gauges. Have someone check it out. It is not unusual for these engines to have a little top end noise. My 95 has 129k on it and could be described almost exactly as you describe this one. I would go anywhere in mine. As long as everything else checks out 2500 is a deal on this. You could part it out and make your money back if it dies.

It has also come to my attention that it grinds when down shifting into 3rd gear. No other grinding or problems on up shift or any other gear.

how's the body, check for rotting frame, and floor pans, and rocker panels. jeeps usually run around 60psi when driving, IF the gauge is right its not good to drive like that at all. possibly gauge or sender is wrong, and pressure is fine. if pressure is low, pump won't always solve this. if everything else looks nice, it might be a good candidate for 4.0 or v8 driveline swap

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president."
