33's with a 2.5" lift on a daily driver?

Up front here is that I never plan to offroad this one other than a beach trip several times a year. (Jeep in signature). The 2.5" lift on there now is way worn out. The cost between an RE 2.5" and RE 4" is nominal all things considered. Now the issue comes in with the addition of the SYE and new drive shafts. But..... end game with the Jeep is factory original as close as I can get with the interior and decals and things but I want it up on 33"s. Not some big mud tire things but some nice OWL AT's or radial street tires. Yes this is going to be a polished and pampered mall queen. I've had my fill of dumping 1000's of $$$ into rock crawlers that aren't safe enough to drive to the corner store.

Bottom line is I want a certain stance and I don't think I can clear 33's with the Rengades additional fenders with a new 2.5 kit but am having one hell of a time justifying the added expense of the SYE and drive shafts although I know for a fact I need to have those things.

Thank you in advance for your advice and consideration.

RichnSteph

Here's my 2018 Willys. It has the Mopar 2 inch lift, 285/70r17 NRG's, 1.5 spidertrax spacers, rancho Geo brackets and yeti track bar. The ride is really better than stock. Steering feels tight and handles nicely around corners. You also don't need to enter NFL concussion protocol when you hit a pot hole. Mine came with the optional rear locker so I also added an Eaton front Tru Trac.

I am running 33 10.50s w a re 4.5" lift and a t case drop w no sye....

IMHO 33's are too big for 2.5" unless you intend to cut fenders... but obviously some disagree.

Cutting fenders on this one is not an option.

Get your lift replaced then see how much room you really have for tires, After replacing the 2.5 that came with purchase, I found room for 32"s but I still like my gears with the 31"s and not planning on changing. 33's and you will want to start thinking about gearing.

Gotta go with Gottgo on this one, I bought mine with 33"s, a 2.5" AND a 1" body lift. Yes original rear springs were shot, but any weight in the bed would get a tire rub on the plastic with any bump, After the new springs would not be so much of an issue, but I wouldn't do it without the body lift.

MannyN has the tube fenders that don't drop down like your renegade trim, giving the appearance of extra clearance, so you need to keep that in mind when figuring what will fit.

If its your daily driver, and you enjoy the vehicle, want a certain stance, then the money is justified. Spend the money, get the 4 inch, do the SYE and be happy. People ask me all the time what something is worth, the answer is always what you feel comfortable with. A jeep is never worth 50k to me, but to many it is.

I just had tranny rebuilt and new clutch. While doing this I did the SYE. Did I want to spend the money,,,,nope. But now that its paid for Im more confident in the rig and Im happy I did it. Rip the bandaid off, it will quit hurting!

BTW, 95 with 4inch lift on 33s

You can probably get by with a Tranfercase drop and axle shims to keep the stock DS and do the 4"

For a daily driver the 33s might be a bit much without re-gearing.
For me, I'd be more concerned with driveability than stance. If I went with 33s, I'd want to re-gear to 4:88 gears. Some posters might recommend even lower gears (higher number). I wouldn't argue that point.

Good Luck, L.M.

Thanks folks! Regearing later on is always an option although in my defense I tend to over-build things, so if I'm doing new gears I'll most likely upgrade the shafts and things while I'm in there. I don't know what gears are in the Renegade now and the way it accelerates I'd not be surprised if they are 4.10:1's. It's quick for a 4.0 and runs out very nice on the highway. If I can get away with the TC drop and shims for the 4" lift I'll run it.

I've regeared a couple rigs in the past. The Yota's were easy as all I had do to was swap the pull-out-pumpkins from 4.10:1 all the way up to 5.29:1 before I sold it. The IH was a little more difficult as I had to learn about backlash and all the rest of that while in the Dana 44's, took some time on the bench but doable from 3.73:1's up to 4.88:1 full spools and hyro assist steering.

This one is a DD though so taking small steps (i.e. Lift, then wheels/tires, then gearing if I need it) is going to be a process. What I'm trying not to do is dump $15,000 over the course of the next 5 years into a Jeep that I paid half that for and ultimately isn't ever going to be worth that total amount of $$ to anyone but myself.

As always thank you all for your time and consideration.

RichnSteph

(I'd love to have this thing around and dependable when my daughter starts driving in 8 years. I think it'd be neat for her to learn to drive a stick and DD this one to and from high school.)
