4.2 to 4.0 head swap

my head gasket just went i have the carbed 4.2 and was looking to swap to the 4.0 i hear that is a common conversion. my questions are

1. would it become fuel injection or stay carbed
2. is it a bolt on or is there some other fabrication i would have to do
3. how much would it cost
4. is the 4.0 head more reliable then the 4.2

thanks for any and all input

I am in the middle of doing the 4.2 - 4.0 conversion to fuel injection. This is one way to make it fuel injection. Guys have kept them carbureted using the 4.0 heads. It is mostly bolt on but there are a few fabrications that I did have to do to some brackets. Mainly the power steering bracket. It all depends on how you decide you want to do it as to how in depth you want to do it. The cost isn't to bad if you can get all the parts from a donor Cherokee or wrangler. As far as more reliable I know that there is one of the 4.0 heads that is more reliable because of thicker gussets that are on the 4.0 wranglers and 95 Cherokees. Maybe more years. I can't think off hand what the casting number is. There are tons of articles on here explaining the whole process which is what I have been using. They also have lots of pictures to help.
