4 wheel drive will not work

Jeep will only pull in 2 wd. Put it in 4 lo or 4 h and act like jeeps in neutral. I'm new to 4 wd. So was wandering if that means transfer case is shot? It's a 94 with a 2.5 5 speed.

Are you sure it's shifting into 4 wheel, with mine there is a shift linkage from the 4 wheel shifter to the side of the transmission that shifts it into 4 wheel that could have come loose and moved so it's not shifting all the way, just a thought. Another thought is the shifter itself, does it feel loose? the bolt that holds mine to the side of the transmission came loose once and wouldn't let it shift.

Does it feel like the drive selection lever is doing anything? or is it just gliding through the gate?

Had a friend get under there to make sure it was engaged. When let out on clutch jeep would pull and heard grinding from transfer case. So guess time for another one.

If it is not fully engaging it will make a grinding noise, if you get under it and take the linkage loos and readjust it so you know for sure it is shifting all the way will confirm if it is an adjustment issue or not. Good luck.
