4x4 posilock cable lock

I just got a 89 yj with a posi lock cable lock. my question is does the cable lock both wheels together like a locker or does lt just engages the front diff? a little confused on what it does.

You should be able to check by looking at your front axle. If the line goes to the small housing in the passenger side of the front axle it is for 4x4. If it goes to the diff it's an axle locker.

Where does it go to on the front axle? If it goes to that little housing on the passenger side you will not get pull from the front tires when your transferr case is in 4x4 unless you pull the cable.

The posi-lok just actuates 4WD. It is NOT a locker. It just replaces the vacuum line going to your CAD with a manually operated cable. Your jeep will still function in 4WD like it did when it had the factory vacuum actuation.

Yep, exactly. Just don't forget to disengage it after you shift your transfer case back to 2WD. I've done that a time or two...

Me too, but then it's just like driving a jeep with the full axle on the right side, everything under there turns.
