8274 winch mount for YJ

Looking for suggestions, ideas, plans and pictures. I have a few thoughts, but want to see what a few of you have come up with. 250 bucks for the Warn gig is a little much, and not sure I like the way it ties into the frame anyway(those two little bent pieces between the winch plate and the frame).

mounted

Still a little trimming to do, but this is it. Used 33.25" X 7.5" 1/4" plate. Cut off small pieces of the crossmember on top of the frame horns. Welded the crossmember back to the frame horns. Ground the horns flat. Drilled four 9/16" holes in the plate for the frame horns and drilled four 1/2" holes in the center of the plate for the Hanson fairlead mount. Way solid. Now time to add a bumper to the mount.

Doesn't take anything more than a heavy piece of C channel to make a nice winch mount... Search your local scrap dealers for a nice piece.. They generally sell metal cheap.. Drill 4 holes for the winch, 2 holes on eahc side to mount to the top of the frame and your done.

That winch is rated at 8000 lbs. It is a Warn 8274 manufactured specifically for Jeep mid 70s to mid 80s. Even has the Jeep logo on it.
