87-89 6 cyl manual trans - not all peugeot?

my 88 had the shitty peugeot trans, and i was under the impression that all from those years did.

i have recently been told by 2 seperate guys that their 87 and 89 came with a jeep trans (assuming they meant an ax-5 or 15)

can anyone clear that up or let me know how to tell whats what?

I ran the BA-10 for 200K miles with 33s,,, never had a tranny issue. Sold my '87YJ with almost 300K miles 5 years ago. The tranny out lasted the frame.

The AX5 was in 87 and 88 4cyliner Wranglers.
The AX15 started in 89 in 6cylinder Wranglers.

There was likely an overlap of BA-10s during the transition in 89.
