87 wrangler running issues

Have an 87 rangler 4.2l automatic. parked it one night it ran fine came out next morning and would not idle, then after it warmed up it idled ok. as soon as you put it in gear it would die out unless you are giving it gas. will not idle in gear. I have changed timing chain and gears, plug wires and plugs, rotor, distibuter cap and every vacume line in the engine compartment, i have disassemble and cleaned the carb twice and nothing changed. one other thing and this may just be the vacume advace working if you set the timing turn the engine off hook everything back up timing is still good but when you rev up the engine the timing mark moves way left. any suggestions on what i could try next would be greatly appreciated. this is an all stock jeep.

check the end play in the distributor, also be sure vacuum and mech. advance isn't sticking.
when mine did this it was end play.

1987, 4,2, rebuilt, head casting cleaned up, port matched and milled-9.5 compression, hotter cam holley 4 bbl

thanks so much i just put a new distributor in instead of messing with the other one. jeep runs in park, nutral. after some adjusting the carb and timeing it stays running in gear it is still a little rough when in gear but atleast i made some progress. i was so frustrated with changing so much stuff and no progress. any suggestions for the rough idle in gear. i have it set at around 700 rpm in park and it drops to 500 to 600 when in gear.
