Starting a build and need some advice . Looking to do a rear Axel swap currently have a Dana 35 where the prior owner added Lincoln lockers and destroyed the rear end. Is there any other axels that would be a direct fit and stronger?

I just got through putting in a 8.8 out of a ford explorer it's pretty much a straight swap. I believe that the ford axle is 5/8" narrower. You will need to replace the spring perches and if you were to find one out of 96 through 2001 it will have rear disc brakes.

Can anyone tell me how to bolt the top of my yj hardtop to windshield? I have bolts for back but nothing for the front. I see holes along the metal strip. What do I use? Thanks so much

The ranger does have an 8.8 in it however for some reason the one In the explorer is stronger. Plus if you go '96 or newer you get disc brakes. You'll also need to plan on new gears to match your front axle

$150-$200 should be a good starting point. I think I ended up with about $800 in mine when it was all said and done. That was with gears and install. I lucked out as it was complete from caliper to caliper and had the drive-shaft yoke still attached.

On a side note, this was probably the easiest swap I have ever done. I did it by myself in an afternoon. The explorer soft brake line connects to the jeep at the frame rail, same bolt pattern, same pinion flange....

If you can find one, there's the 87 XJ D44 option. There was a small set of xj's that had a D44 in the back. I believe it was 87-89 with the heavy duty towing package. I had one in the Smurf, and loved it. Easy swap. Cut off the old brackets, weld on new ones. Done. Direct bolt in after that. There were some issues, like driveshaft length. Great axle though, i put it through hell and never had a problem.
