93 renegade

Hi guys I'm intrested in buying a yj jeep and I found a 93 red renegade. It's in good condition limited rust, I found it for around 5000 bucks. Personally I'm on the fence about it. being 17 and on a limited budget I'm wondering if I should just hold off and hope a yj comes for sale in my price range that has all the goodies on it or pick the renegade up and put new tires and eventually a lift kit in and know every mod that happens to the vehicle. Thanks

Well I'd say that if you really like it, even the look of it being a renegade and all, then buy it if you think it is worth it but I'd really look it over well before you put any money down, it's a 22 year old jeep that your talking about.

But otherwise if you don't really like the renegade look and if your gonna take off all the special renegade body parts then I would just wait for another jeep.

From my experience it's not too hard to find a stocker YJ which is what I'm assuming your after. That way you won't have any switches or wires in it that you have to follow around to know what they're for.

Personally though I would wait for another to come along, 5K is quite a bit more than I paid for mine, even though we both live in different areas. Plus some people love the renegade look and others don't so when your friends see the renegade they'll probably always give you crap about the fenders and such and try to make you switch them out.

Do you want a YJ or just a wrangler in general though? Not that there's anything wrong with driving a vehicle that's older than you but I drive a jeep from the same year I was born which I think is really cool for some reason. Idk maybe that's just me who thinks it cool tho.

Also if you want any advice on whether or not you should buy the jeep we always like to see pictures of said jeep to help us give our opinions out.

And good luck man, I hope you find your dream jeep!

Keep in mind that if you find one with all the "goodies" you want than that also could be problems for you if the po hacked it together for a quick sale, check rust. Worry about rust and hacked wire jobs and don't stare at the new tires or pretty new bumper or bedliner hiding all that cancer under it. As stated without pictures or any info at all that renegade could be worth between 1500 bux and 12,000 bux

Need to know how many miles. I like the Rene's, which is obvious since I've had mine since bought new in "92". I would be concerned about one that lived in Minn, those ABS fenders can hold salt and water causing rust. The Rene can take a larger tire without much lift, I ran 33/11.5 15 on mine. It now fits 35's with. 4.5 lift with no rubbing.

Hey bro,

I have a 1991 Wrangler Renegade in Red.

I like mine a lot, I wanted to lift and put a different bumper on it at some point.

If you're into just taking off all the body panels I would suggest against it you'll be left with holes.

Like everyone said, make sure that you fix any ratsnest wiring or rust before you throw cash into it for a lift kit. You're 17, so your funds are going to be limited.

In Highschool, I had a friend (or.. acquaintance ) who threw a huge lift kit, and some big ole' tires on his Silverado. The truck looked like a beast, but because of the lift kit the rear shaft to the transmission ended up snapping.
The shaft was at the wrong angle, due to the lift, and it caused too much stress.

He spent all his money, and took out credit to get all this custom work done, to having to park his truck because the transmission was toasted.

So here is the take-away, don't spend all your money on the accessories or cosmetic crap / unneeded modifications on the car, because you never know if you're going to need some cash for an "oh crap" fund.

You probably can't afford to just replace some important parts if something does go wrong, so saving every penny towards that is important.

Personally I am just saving my money, I like the YJ's but I really would like a newer TJ, or older CJ.

I went and looked at the renegade and it was a total p.o.s was not what the add said it to be at all. I'm looking for a yj because I personally like the look of them better then other generations. I looked at a 97 tj that was very clean with 181k on the engine, it was a 2.5 liter and I've read that they are kinda low on power. But hopefully I'm gonna check out a 93 wrangler tomorrow with a 4.0

I liked the look of the renegade but it wasn't in a decent condition and the asking price was to much.

Yeah I gotcha man.

Me, I'll probably run my renegade to the ground. No point of selling it, it probably won't be worth much.
