A Note on Spring Shackles and Track Bars...

Thanks to bigearl for sending me stock length shackles, by the way...

Prior setup:
"Lift" shackles on front only, front track bar, front sway bar (sometimes connected, sometimes disconnected). No rear track bar.

Current setup:
Stock shackles, no track bars, no sway bars.

Consistent:
2.5" lift springs, newish shocks, new tie rod, aftermarket drag link, half-decent steering shaft.

I used to NEED my track bar on the front. Without it, I would take a turn and sometimes the steering would bite, sometimes it would take a lot to steer it. Sway bar wasn't needed too badly, but I would have the steering wander just a little bit.

Once bigearl sent the shackles, I ditched the ridiculous lift shackles that were all bent up from dragging on everything. They don't even look like they're 1/8" steel, and appear to be homemade. Part of them actually broke off when I hammered them off.

Since then, the front and rear sit level (finally), and I decided to take off the track bar and align the drag link.

Now the ride is still bouncy, but when I hit bumps it doesn't feel like the suspension is hitting metal on metal. Steering is nearly perfectly straight now.

So... To each his own, since every Jeep is different. But if you're getting new shackles, make sure they're quality, unless you want to run track bars.

Those old shackles look like they were made of old mower blades! Ha ha.

They were just awful. In rocks, they'd hang low and get caught. In mud, they'd fill with mud and drag as I was "swimming" through stuff.

I just haven't had time to put them in. Luckily, the bushings and sleeves came right out. All that I needed to do was tack weld the mounts, since they looked a little shady in some places.
