Advice....

Hi, I'm in NJ and my YJ has finally bit the dust. The trans is shot and the body is rusting out. The engine is in good shape and it even has a new radiator. So for the advice, is it worth trying to find some who wants to part it out or is selling it for scrap metal okay too? Unfortunately, I need a quick turn around to buy some form of transportation. I am hoping that this post isn't violating any rules, I'm not trying to sell it here. I'm just looking for help with what would be the better solution. Thanks in advance for any advice.

How is the frame/chassis and drivetrain? If that's in good shape, post it to Craigslist and in the for sale section here. Scrap the tranny, that's done. The catalytic converter has some good metal for scrapping. Save the engine, radiator, and transfer case (if it's good). The transfer case, especially if it's an NP231, will be good. Sell the transfer case, engine, and radiator (offroaders will always need radiators, I would buy yours if you were closer) on Craigslist. If they don't sell within a month, sell them to a junk yard.

So basically, save what's good, and scrap the rest. Some recycling centers specializing in precious or valuable metals (copper, aluminum) will pay more. Some other centers will just buy by the pound, so give them your bad parts.

Just look up everything within a reasonable distance with the keywords: recycling, metal, scrap, junk, yard, used auto parts, or anything of that sort.

Good luck.

My friend ended up doing that. He bought a $1000 GMC truck with a bad engine, found a Chevy with the same engine, bought it for $450, and scrapped the rest for $300. Got a truck in good mechanical condition and nearly a brand new body (new paint, minimal rust) for $1150 with a little elbow grease. Lucky bastard. Find somebody smart like him to pass on the good parts, some people just want to buy the whole thing; you won't need to bother with the scrap yard if that's the case.

Sounds like the PERFECT Project for someone! How much do you think you want for it? I am in Maryland.

Thanks...

I'm guessing that I may post it to craigs list for $500 if someone can tow it. I feel awful junking it, but I really don't think I have the time or storage space to part it out. Thanks for the advice.

Mind sending me a few photos of it? I might save you the time of posting it on Craigs List...

Getting a lot of interest on CL. Away for the weekend so I can't post any pics. I'm glad I might be finding it a home. I'm sorry to see it go. Someday when the divorce is paid off I'll replace her. In the meantime I was able to pick up a liberty fairly cheap to stick to the jeep family. :-) thanks for helping!

So, are you Jeepless or still got it?
