Anyone install a backup camera on the YJ?

I'm planning to do a little work on my YJ and thinking about a backup camera. Anyone install one? I'm thinking the rear view mirror type. I've seen some for sale online but the mirror seems too big for a jeep.

I would not do a mirror one because in summer the mirror gets hot and it causes the lcd to wash out get a small lcd and mount it on the dash they also make a round camera it would be cool to install that on your spair tire in the center cap location

Well it just depends were you want it I spent most or my teens and 20's installing car audio and video. If you want a real clean look I have seen some head units thats a rado with a small lcd on the face plate you could mount in in a console you could mount it on drivers side just above the dash you just don t want it in direct sunlight or it will wash out also depends on how much money u want to spend lol

When I installed them, parrot made one that was probably a perfect fit for the square on the lower dash. But I have a soft top and don't have a rear wiper switch. That's where I'd put mine. Problem with some of the stereos is you'd need an input that was triggered when you shift into reverse or you'd have to manually change it to use the cam. Seems kind of pointless.

Just trying to bring the old jeep up to times. My son is using it now and I'm planning on painting it,putting a new soft top, carpet and interior. I'm sure it can be wired into the backup light to power the cam. I still like the monitor in the mirror. Is it possible to use one from a newer car or truck? And just wire it to a aftermarket cam? Just have to find a mirror that's small

You'd probably want to stay away from another factory mirror simply for ease of installation. You'd have to deal with which wires are for what. Might be a large pita. I'd def go aftermarket. But anything is possible. Audiovox was great for their mirror cams but they were pretty big. It's def an awesome idea.
