Axle swap w/ leaf questions

I am finally getting around to swapping out the D35 (mostly because after 23 years of abuse it blew up). I have a ford 8.8 I am building. Its time for new leaf springs at the same time. So the age old question is over or under and what brand of spring. I know spring over gives me better articulation but does it have any other benefit? Right now it has a 3.5" lift on 33's, I don't want to go over 4" and I'll put 35's on after the 8.8 is done. HELP?!?!

There's a lot to SOA that simple welding on some perches... there are some good articles here, so just use the search feature and grab some coffee for reading.

That being said, many long-time SOA Jeep guys are now more likely to run a small SUA lift and trim the fenders to fit.

35's on a 3.5" lift (or even 4") is going to be TIGHT.
You're going to be scrubbing in several spots.
Unless you plan on going extreme, cutting your fenders...
If you had a 4" lift +1" shackles (a 1" body lift would work also but I hate body lifts) and/or a little fender trimming, you should be fine.

Agreed with @ZombiePopper

4.5" RE Extreme + 1" BL + Trimmed fenders + TJ Flares + extended bump stops are needed to keep the 35" MT/R's out of my sheetmetal...

I wanted to go SOA for years but after hearing about axle wrap problems and needing to run a anti wrap bar i decided to keep my jeep sprung under.

The one thing i don't like about it is the u bolts hanging down and scraping on everything. Years ago there was a u bolt flip kit designed for sprung under CJ's and YJ's. I don't remember which company made it and i have been unable to find it. I think once i read that they went out of business because it was dangerous because the u bolts slipped around and would not stay in place. But i don't clearly remember i could be thinking wrong.

....my plan is to go highline fenders to try and keep the scrubbing to a minimum.

The best option for the rear is to use some GM axle cradles and spring plates, which will allow you to flip the u-bolt upside down and keep the nuts on top. These work better than any aftermarket kit I've seen and they're $10-20 in parts at a Pick-&-Pull yard and slightly more on ebay.

For the fronts, I haven't had much issue with the bolts catching on things though I'll likely flip those myself eventually.
